I've gotten into the routine of doing that as well on my personal laptop. Once my desktop gets full, I usually group the files into different folders and then disburse the folders into different document areas off of my desktop

The whole #yesallwomen thing deeply offended me. I think saying "yes all women experience serious disadvantages, etc." is entirely fair. However, when I read articles about it that explicitly state that the Elliot Roger case should be used to discuss misogyny and NOT to discuss mental illness, I just feel fucking awful. Yeah, women are discriminated against, but at least they can proudly admit that they are women.

Maybe misogyny was his mental illness. :idk:

On that subject, I really hate being lumped in with assholes just because I'm a guy. Like, what the fuck did I ever do to you?

Im curious, which articles have you found that state that his mental illness shouldn't be discussed? Watching his videos on youtube definitely set off the "something isn't right" alarm in my brain and I know he was in therapy.

This isn't the op-ed piece I read (should have called it that rather than "article") which explicitly state that mental illness isn't an issue, but I did read one which I can't find now. But this just starts off spitting in the face of anyone who thinks mental illness should be dealt with more sensitively and who thinks maybe, just maybe, some people are using a massacre to advance a tangentially related agenda.

As I said, the #yesallwomen sentiment is a totally fair point, however...this is where I just need to stop because all this shit gets me all up in a bunch (see I can't even describe my feelings in a way that isn't silly ;) ).

In a nutshell, feminism has reached that point where it has one foot in the mainstream and needs to make a difficult transition in order to stay effective. It needs to move from the outsider shouting for attention to a movement that can engage others maturely and produce productive dialogue.

Deleted my rambling thought process explanation. Instead here's just a confession about how I look at sports and why I find it hard to understand fans.

The team that wins deserved to have won. Either they practiced more, or their athletes performed better, or their strategy was more effective, etc. In any case they deserve the win. To root for the team that loses, or to think the losing team deserved to have won, or anything else like that, I find entirely incomprehensible.

I agree. What if we could direct all the energy, enthusiasm and money into something more socially useful?

I think we should get rid of most modern sports and bring back gladiators.

But then it would cease to be leisure. Few people want to spend their time off doing something 'useful.'

There are plenty of other things to do besides sports that are fun or leisurely, but really that's not my qualm. It's not about how people are spending their time off, it's more about how much value we place in big sporting events. I like sports I just don't think we should be rewarding people who play sports at the highest level with gigantic sums of money, fame, attention and respect. I mean the same could be said for movie actors and other celebrities. At the end of the day these people really don't deserve what they have but I suppose that's just how our society works right now. The demand is high so they get the money. I hope it won't always be this way.

Welcome to capitalism in decline. I try to avoid thinking in terms of deserve, but I know where you are coming from.

You don't think someone who can do something that 99.99 repeating infinity of the population cannot doesn't deserve the trappings that come with it? It really doesn't make a difference if you've won the genetic lottery for your intellect or for your athleticism, if you really think about it.

And, yes, a large portion of sports fans are troglodytes, but so are a large portion of fuzz lovers. Stupid doesn't cling to any color, creed, or passtime. 'Useful' is just as stupid a concept as any concept of sport that you might are to name, in the cosmic scheme of things anyway.
