This is something I was really curious about... Fuck. I may have to get a slightly longer scale neck made when I get one then?Bassus Sanguinis wrote:I was pretty excited about the Squire but though its dressed to kill, the neck just doesn't deal with tuning down to drop C.

Damn. You dudes want to drop tune from the bass register? Heavy! Will the tuners accommodate much heavier strings on these?
In other news - I just scored a '95 or '96 MIJ Bass VI, and it cooks. Great guitar.

Re: Bass vi
Ideally I'd play it in Drop C or Drop C#, I currently use a borrowed VI in a 2 piece in that tuning and it's not really stable/I play really hard and it's not mine so I can't mod it. It's really useful to tune down a bit when there aren't other instruments because it feels like it takes up more space and I'm a really bad singer. We also play somewhat heavy stuff. Re: Bass vi
What strings did you use when you tried that? Circle K makes custom sets so in theory you could pick the gauges that would keep the tension the same as the standard strings in standard tuning.Bassus Sanguinis wrote:I was pretty excited about the Squire but though its dressed to kill, the neck just doesn't deal with tuning down to drop C.

LaBella's custom VI sets addressed the tuner fit on the heavy guage strings by leaving real thin ends to ensure they made it through those guitar-style tuning pegs.kosta wrote:Damn. You dudes want to drop tune from the bass register? Heavy! Will the tuners accommodate much heavier strings on these?

Mine's sunburst. Not sure if the older MIJ ones came in any other colors.

Gonna be ordering strings to finish up my Bass VI, what gauges are you guys using? I just want to do E-e without flop
//I was thinking of Circle K 102's, just because the smaller strings are more comparable to what non-boutique sets would be in terms of gauge.
That'd be .024/.033/.043/.057/.076/.102
What say ye?

Re: Bass vi
Depends on what you're sensitive to and their particular tension of that string type.
The VI has never been a megafirm low E, it's sort of like expecting one of the old Ashbory basses to have a more metallic feelling rubber string.

I played a Fender Pawn Shop VI and I thought the string tension was pretty okay. I suppose I could just pick up a single string if I wanted a thicker low E. I don't like a super amount of tension, but I hate flop. Something in the middle would be nice

So far so good. I put them on, they feel good and tuned up nicely. Letting it sit now then I'll adjust the neck tomarrow.skullservant wrote:Let me know what you think buddy, I'm quite curious. It seems like it would be a decent set
