Re: Let's see your GUITAR!
So I spent a boat load of money (IMO, at least) on a guitar and finally showed up today! My custom GL:

Let's check it out!

I've always always always wanted a guitar that is sonic blue w/ a pearloid pickguard, but that's been really hard since I'm lefty. Hooray for custom shit. I went ahead and splurged on other options cuz I figured fuck it, it's custom. It has a swamp ash body, quartersawn maple neck, upgraded trem, gloss neck (I know I'm in the minority, but gloss is superior than satin
), and I think that's it.....
The pickups sound DUPER nice! They don't really sound like single coils, they sound like humbuckers but haggard sounding. IDK how to explain it. And the 2 and 4 positions don't make me want to barf, I usually hate those sounds on strats. 2 and 4 go hard on this guitar. The neck is really substantial, too, even though it's just the standard size. Which is awesome for me because I like big necks for my tiny wimpy hands. And I'm like the last person who talks about sustain, and tone and crap like that, but holy guacamole this thing sustains like crazy! Like, I've never played anything like this before. Shit rings out forever. And the trem is smooth, yummy. The trem was worth the price of this guitar. I'm all about the shoegayz/seasick stuff, and this trem is so easy and smooth. Huge difference from all the $100 strat copies I've been playing my whole life, haha.
And that's my expert opinion. I know you guys really wanted to know what I thought of G&L guitars since I'm such a highly respected figure on the internet.

That's awesome MB!
Being a lefty too I know how hard it is to get anything decent to play.

That's a cool looking guitar dude.
I always wanted a Strat. Wanted to get a lefty and string it upside down in honour of jimi. But then I thought that it is hard for lefties to find decent axes to play. Kind of thought it would be wrong. So I left the lefties for the lefties.

I also have a G&L that was custom ordered like ten years ago. It's always been th main axe. Mine os made from swamp ash, too. Is yours also heavy as fuck and built like you could break a door down with it?

When I was in middle school it used to piss me off, because I felt like I was being mocked.

Mine isn't too bad, it's less than some Agile LPs I've played. But, yeah, the fit and finish is super fucking tight and solid.

My Squier Super Sonic is ready again. Finally installed the TV-Jones and the black pickguard. It sounds really great with these PUs. Was a good choice to go that route

Re: Let's see your GUITAR!
Looks killer man! I want to try a Bigsby on a guitar too...
I know I just posted this guitar, but I completely just redid it. Teisco pickup in the middle position now, nice and low output and jangly and detailed and just awesome garage-sounding, but can get heavy too. Kind of P90ish with a little less growl and output, and a little more strat influence.
Glued a block of wood in the old trem route so that I could hardtail it with the hardtail bridge plate from the bridge that I took the saddles from for the 12 string I put together. Regular strat saddles. Also fixed some grounding issues that I found (not pictured). Added some copper shielding under the pickguard, added a little tiny strip from the bridge to the jack plate, then also ran a wire from the jack to the bridge. Nearly silent now and got rid of most of the hum.

Re: Let's see your GUITAR!
This ongoing strat project gets more and more interesting with every incarnation.
Interesting about the sound of that teisco, too. Have you done any recordingnwith this configuration dude?
Sam, if you ever find yourself in a bind and you need to offload that sg, I sincerely hope I have the cash to lighten your burden.
So sexy.
