Expression Pedals - Stupid Question

Post by MannequinRaces »

Since my new acquisition of a Memory Boy I am looking for options on what to use as an 'expression' pedal. I have a Cry Baby Wah pedal. Will that work or do I need something different?! :idk: I didn't want to mess anything up so I figured I would ask here first!

You need something else like a dedicated EP pedal from boss/m-audio/moog.
Volume pedals like the ernie ball vp jr (25k) also work well, and are built a bit more sturdy then your average shitty plastic expression pedal.

All expression pedals have different pot values, and the information isn't always clear (stupid).
Do some research to see what people are using with their memory boys to at least get an idea what values would be best.
There are some that call me...morningstaru?

sorry, but your wah wont work. i am not sure if a moog expression pedal will work on that. i was trying out an id600 at fat tone guitars using a moog expression to play with the repeats and it was awesome! :joy:

did you check the manual for expression pedal specs?

I can tell you that my Moog EP-2 has worked with every EHX pedal I've tried it on, but I admittedly haven't tried the Mem Boy yet. The cool thing about the Moog is that it has an attenuator knob to select the sweep value.

Thanks for the replies fellas'. I looked in the manual it and does not list any specs for an expression pedal but does offer several suggestions. I guess I should have read the whole manual first! The expression pedals it lists as suitable ones are the Moog EP-2, M-Audio EX-P, or Roland EV-5. Also mentions that you can connect a control voltage to the jack. Looks like I'll be ordering the Moog pedal since it gets good reviews, has a attenuator knob like bigchief pointed out, and is only $40. It looks a little fuggly but what the hell. Again, thanks for putting up with my ignorance! :erm:

This means you could have a drum loop playing into the jack and it would change the settings right?

How do you hook up an Ernie Ball Volume pedal to work as an Exp pedal? Do you just run a 1/4" from the "out" jack or is it a bit more complicated?

Heh, just to see if it worked, I plugged my guitar into the expression jack, and the volume pot acted as an EP. :whateva:
