I hope you're not dissin' one of the best current rock drummers there bud. Of course drum beats are reused! You're listening to rock here man. ACDC used the same drum beat for every song they ever made! (Hahaha)

People get too stuck on bands past releases.. I mean, if they released an album that sounded like the S/T there would be people who complained about it sounding the same. either way they get shit on, but they seem to have alot more success with this new record and they deserve it. Incredible band.

With that being said... I don't like the new Soundgarden record really, but I respect the fact that they can't keep releasing the same record and as time passes people in the band listen to new music and get new influences and want to play different stuff or incorporate different stuff.
You can absolutely still tell its QOTSA and its a great progression I feel. It's a solid album front to back, and you don't get many albums that are solid front to back nowadays...

They played a huge amount of old material and the whole new album (except fairweather friends)
Last night. Great live band.

They played In The Fade too... Was so stoked on that.

Oh no, it's not meant as an insult to Dave Grohl. I was just thinking that it might have been part of the point of the album (like I said, not only are the drums on those two parts very similar, but some lyrics were reused too). Pointing out that I noticed that wasn't meant as a bad thing, I actually thought it was pretty cool that they seemed to be kinda revisiting some of the old stuff in a new way. :)

I don't care much about the past releases (as far as making comparisons go). I enjoyed everything they've done (I'm even amongst the apparently rare fans that actually likes Era Vulgaris :p), but it's just that quite a few of the songs on this album didn't do anything for me. I don't expect them to remake the old stuff, and to be honest, I would have been annoyed if they did put out another S/T or SFTD.

Agreed on Soundgarden.

Of course you can still tell it's them, it's just that quite a few of the songs don't seem like they're as good as they could have been (imo). It's still listenable (and even somewhat enjoyable at times), but it's a bit like a lot of Nick Cave's post Boatman's Call stuff for me (of course it's not a good stylistic comparison, but the "could have been more to it" feeling applies to both for me).

And yeah, from what I've seen so far, they're the best they've ever been when it comes to live stuff. How's SFTD in the live sets? Only asking cus I haven't really seen any videos of them doing that on this tour when they're apparently playing it sometimes, and I was wondering how Josh is doing with the vocals on that these days.

That's awesome. In the fade has always been one of my favorite songs. Shame that they don't seem to play it very often.

I've got a rip of this entire Wiltern performance and it's pretty much been on repeat for the last couple of months. The new material works really well in context with the old, I think. And the currently lineup is awesome IMO - not my favorite, but they're all great musicians. I was uncomfortable with ...Like Clockwork at first, but it grew on me like a fungus. It just happened to coincide with a sever bout of depression, and now being on the "other side" I have a whole different appreciation for the record. As a self-admitted fanboy, I'm really happy with where they're at.

And I was pleasantly surprised by the new Soundgarden...I anticipated major suckage.

Sounds really good. This has done even more to convince me that this might be the tightest lineup that they've ever had. Thanks for the video!

That Wiltern performance was fantastic and early on, like right before of just after the album release I'm thinking. They sounded pretty much perfect, very well rehearsed, and Jon Theodore is a godsend in terms of being more than capable of any and all Queens drum parts. The skill that stands out the most to me though is his tempo. He's like a robot. Queens were notorious for speeding up live (esp Joey!) but Theodore takes the reigns and conducts that shit in perfect time, def one of my favorite drummers since hearing TMV's Deloused In The Comatorium for the first time way back when.

Oh man, I listened to Over The Years and Through the Woods the other day. SO FAST. Also, that lineup, with both of the Eleven peeps, was pretty sprawling. Lots of tasty noises ontop of haut krauty jams.

Since we're posting live stuff, here's one I posted on reddit awhile back. Quality is pretty bad, but it has Lanegan on keyboard in "Someone's in the wolf" so it's totally worth it imo. :!!!:

Cool to hear DOS.

Now tht I've had almost a year to sit on it, I'm ok with ...like clockwork. It's definitely a good album, I don't think it's really possible for QOTSA to have a bad album really. But this album I found ether too soft or too melodramatic (if that's even the right word) for my tastes. I need to be in the right mood to listen to it. And with the exception of like, 4 tracks, their aren't that many really "party" songs on this thing that I can jam too. But overall, it's okkkk.

Got it on vinyl recently, I really like it :) it doesn't have the edgy production they used to have, but it's a SOLID record :)

really looking forward to seeing them in august (for the second time since LC came out, the first time was a festival show and it ROCKED)
