Yeah, with the job market being complete ass a lot of people have turned to school to ride it out. Unfortunately, I'm a biologist, so without a PhD I'm going to be a lab bitch for a long, long time, even though I have a master's. I did pretty well on the GRE but my problems were A. not enough research experience outside academia and B. not enough openings in the department. Hell, Clemson and Kentucky both said that if a professor had had an opening I'd have gotten in, so at least I know I have a good background.wfs1234 wrote:That sucks man I'm sorryBassist_Diver wrote:Didn't get into grad school this year. Time to find a lab job and save my coins to try again at the end of the year.Getting into grad school right now is SUPER competitive. I remember looking at the average acceptance scores for universities for the five years prior to my application, and six years ago I would've had a shot at getting into a top-ten university in my field. As it is now I'm lucky I got into a school in the back end of the top fifty. Shit's crazy right now.
It seems like grad schools look at both how well you're likely to do in their program, and what kind of asset you'll be to the department. So, it might not hurt to study up and take the GRE again (that is, if the GRE's required for your graduate program). If you do better, you can submit those scores. If you do worse, you can submit your previous scores instead. Finding a lab job is a good move, though!

You should bring in a bunch of turn of the century pictures of little boys and ask her to guess the sex.
WEATHER CHANNEL FUCKING VIDEOS.
Jesus.
I will end you.
"GIANT SEA MONSTER FOUND"
"DEAD SEA CREATURE BAFFLES SCIENTISTS"
"ZOMG YOU'RE GONNA DIE"
Fuck off. Putting some vague, sensationalist title doesn't make your mundane as fuck "news" stories more interesting.
Mmm. But sailors' sweet tea is good.

Yeah but if parents don't provide guidance, who will? Teach your kid how to succeed in society. Encouraging deviant behavior before the kid is even old enough to understand that it is, is sabotaging their future.IEatCats wrote:Down with gender roles, man. My step-grandmother was in town this weekend, and while we were driving home from something, she said "I just don't inflate the air in my tires, that's man stuff, and I just don't mess with man stuff."chuckjaywalk wrote:It was difficult to bite my tongue in group today. To which my mom said "Or, woman who chooses to take care of shit stuff?"
S-G responded with "You mean dyke stuff?"
And my mom, who was currently driving, socked her in the arm, and said "I've always put the air in my tires."
I wanted to just scream. There were also a few other choice moments of racism that escaped me, but I do recall saying "Well, that's just incredibly racist" to her at least once.
Fuck that noise.

Re: The spite, hate, rage, apathy and mild irritation thread
Got fucking suspended from work today. I work in an italian restaurant, and one of the new trainees called and quit today. When the Manager asked her why, she said it was because I was rude to her. I spoke a total of 10 words to this girl. I told her not to stand at the bar doing nothing, and to follow her trainer. If the bitch can't handle that, the problem here is not me.
Boss told me my "egotistical bullshit" was hurting the business and suspended me for 7 days. So, I'm using my newfound vacation time to look for another job and write some fucking music. Maybe some blue-collar, Pissed Jeans-esque fuck the world working man's punk. Yes, I think that will do nicely.
The main thing is that I'm pretty depressed about my life situation in general, being 27 with a kid, just recently getting into school, working shitty restaurant jobs, and living with my Grandpa. It's a mutually beneficial deal, I help him get the house ready to sell and I live here for free, but my wife hates it and I feel like I'm 15 again.

Last night, I acted out in a way that is completely not in keeping with my pattern. Yes, I have a mental illness, but I also suspect that I'm a douche, too.
