Re: Current Happenings
Thanks Bobby, that's exactly what I was wondering. I saw the pickup cover in the vid, and understood what you were after (it looked rad btw), but I had no idea about what it um... was all about. If you get my drift. So thanks, your answer helps a lot.
Kinda makes a joke out of dudes charging double your money for a guitar and putting Hipshot hardware on it (or something). Not that I dislike hipshot - they make awesome bridges, but I think it shows a dedication to the instrument and a dedication to the creative process that other guys don't seem to have.

Re: Current Happenings
My friend went to college to learn how to be a tool-maker as soon as he finished school. Within a few years of being in a job, he left. I can't remember whether it was because the recession began and he lost his job or whether he hated it and wanted to leave, but with a family and all the pressures and responsibilities that brings, he left and went back to college to work in social care. It took five years but he's now in a new job he likes.Nelson Instruments wrote: As a side note if anyone out there is looking for direction in lofe for a career I would strongly suggest machining and or tool-and-die making.
There is an extreme lack of those people and you can make BIG money going into tool and die making.
I've already decided that if this guitar venture doesn't pan out I'll go back to school to be a machinist.

For sure! I think ya gotta like what you're doing or it won't matter how much they pay you!
Matt, yeah the striving for uniquenes has always been a priority for me. I didn't want to be another of those builders sayingthey make something unique but then use the same pickups, bridges, etc etc that everyone else uses.
At that point the difference(s) between all of these guitars becomes extremely superficial.
With my instruments everything down to the knobs is unique and something you really won't get anywhere else. The differences go far beyond the "look".
By the way, the pickguard blanks arrived and I'll be taking them to the waterjet cutters in a few days, and the bridge/tailpiece parts are being made and should be ready by mid April.
I'll still need to get the saddles made for the bridges but we are chugging along!
In the meantime I've been lacquering the guitars that I built last fall and am getting done whatever I can to catch up!

Yeah, I totally missed that you posted that pic.
Those look fantastic.
The red, green and pink ones totally jump out. The natural ones look gorgeous.

The tobacco burst is going to be nice. I'm thinking a tuxedo would work so well with your designs though. Inspiring me to get back to work. I have so many stalled projects right now.

Make sure your monitors are calibrated everyone. :-)
The red one is orange, and the pink one is actually lavender. :-)
The green on is green so we're good there.
They are really looking great and I'm excited to get them finished up, out the door, and onto the next batch!

I'm colorblind, OK?
The natural ones are natural, right?

Orange is orange, but that lavender is definitely pink on my screen.Nelson Instruments wrote:Make sure your monitors are calibrated everyone. :-)

Re: Current Happenings
In person they do look lavender but you are not the first to say they look pink. MANY see them as pink.
Lavender is a tricky color to mix! If you aren't careful it looks too blue.
Your eye wants you to keep adding blue because you think it is too red but you have to stop when the base color is a brownish plum color.
Then that gets added to white and you get lavender but still it is tough. Even when spraying you have a weird reaction where your eye tricks you into thinking it's too pink.
But when all it said and done it comes out looking nice.
When I did the bass VI the color came out too blue. I think that color worked well for that instrument but these are MUCH more true color-wise.

Re: Current Happenings
I'm sure it is a great shade of lavender man - it's hard to do colours justice on screen. I've posted a couple of pics of my Dr Scientist ILF Day Delay and they look crap whatever I do to them, but in person it's the raddest colour.
