So on the HM2...does the Taiwan vs Japan thing really make a diff or is it some kind or cork sniffing elitism?

Just looked on ebay and a few Taiwan ones for ok money.

It's usually just mojo, which is pretty much unquantifiable. You're fine with Taiwanese. I'd always look for a Japanese 'pink label' Boss for fun, but not because they're indefinitely better or anything.

My HM-2 came with no label sticker, so I don't know where it was made. Is there any other way to tell, like if I open it up?

Got a good price going for one of these. Anyone know anything about them and their applications for guitar?

PA gear. Could work for guitar as is, or swap out the speakers if you want something voiced specifically for the guit.

So our practice time has been diminishing lately, and we are trying to write. We're still coming up with good stuff, but the retention of it is a bit harder. Anybody have a tab writing program they could recommend? recording the good ideas in ways that can be taken home would help.

I've used Guitar Pro for years now to write my music, from huge ten minutes opuses with drums, keys, bass and multiple guitars, to short little riffs that I wanted to save when I couldn't be bothered to use any recording gear. The sound engine isn't great, and you can't find version 5 without torrenting it any more, but it's a worthwhile investment—I just didn't want to upgrade to the next version so I had to torrent it. I'd obviously rather support the company, but I have no interested in upgrading and I don't think you can buy version five any more.

I also use it as a practise tool. I've always hated metronomes with a passion and couldn't be assed learning how to program a drum machine, so to make sure I remained in the 'pocket', I would use Guitar Pro or Power Tab. Power Tab is a free program. It's decent but nowhere near as detailed. I've used both Power Tab and Guitar Pro to teach students how to read rhythmic notation and tablature; how to compose a solo, layer tracks, and write with a full band; and I've used it as a daily practise tool to jam along to.

I hadn't used it in a while, though, and I wanted to get back into it, so I started writing a few new practise routines for myself. I've been trying to teach myself how to solo in odd groupings, such as moving from 3 notes per beat for two beats, five notes per beat in the next two beats, and then four notes per beat in the following four beats, and repeat. It's excellent for that because you can be sure you're remaining in the groove. It helps you to audibly visualize what you're playing before you play it.

To be honest, though, if you prefer to write in an improvisational manner, just invest in a Zoom recorder. Set it up so that you can see the individual parts as you're playing them and you're away. The audio is very good as well.

hard drive needs replaced and will have a new one shortly, Being able to write and print tablature will help us come in to practices ready to go, as opposed to relearning the riffs from recordings. (at least that is my idea anyways)

Yeah, it's fine for that. It takes a little while to get used to all the quick commands and keys, but once you do you can tab a riff out in a matter of ten minutes.

I just had a look and apart from the sticker I can't see anywhere that says Mad in Japan.

if you dont like FF is not exactly the FF to solve your FF woes. Its more like building on that idea for even moar fun.

Hit it. Pair it with the AOR or Carvin and you are in Doom tone heaven. The other guitarist in Khemmis uses an X100B with a Sonic Titan and/or BAT Ritual in front. Sounds huge and swampy, very close to the first HoF album IMO.

Also, if anyone is into Trap Them, they posted a new song. I'm more into it than the last album. Dunno if it'll match up to Seizures in Barren Praise for me, but I'm excited all the same.

Fuzz Face is the best face. Probably through a courtesy bid on there once the details get live.

My first impression of the Cthulhu Fuzz was that it does the FF sound, without a lot of the drawbacks that most usually have. Plenty of gain and low end, doesn't get really fizzy up top and doesn't sag or get farty with bass. I love a good Fuzz Face, but most of my favorites were only ever good for one thing and would fail spectacularly at others.
