(Ditto Cream, Hendrix, Zeppelin, various blues players, Van Halen, Metallica, etc.) Sleep is just not interesting to me at all, nor is anything that those players have done post-Sleep. Actually, about 90% of the music that gets recommended here doesn't excite me. I am a picky picky bitch. (And to be fair, you guys do better than the sevenstring.org crowd, largely because I have no interest in even *trying* to listen to most prog-metal or tech-death. Or any type of death metal, generally.)

I have such a boner for every classic artist you listed and pretty much everything the Sleep dudes have ever done that this whole post is driving me Cthulu levels of insane

Well, y'know, tastes vary. Far be it from me to say that *no one* should listen to those artists. I just don't often choose to.

...yeah, I'm that guy that "likes doom" but doesn't smoke weed and is "meh" about your favorite bands. There's always one....

I'm only joking (kinda). I have no problem with you not liking any of those bands, or any band for that matter. Zep and Sabbath were super important to me in my adolescence but as I said a couple pages ago, different strokes.

I also don't smoke weed.

Anymore.

Define "best". No, seriously.

Yet again "good" is subjective. Good for you and good for someone else are two different things. If your tuned close to E standard its kinda MEH IMO, if your downtuned to b or lower though it can be all right if you set the EQ correctly. But depending on the year and where its made the quality control is real shit and their a pain to work on.

Just a word of advice for you bro since this thread has kinda taken a weird spin today in attitude. Instead of asking about a hundred different amps why don't you put to use the knowledge thats been bestowed upon you? Look at the the power amp style and the type of power amp tubes, if its got EL84's its probably not gonna fit the bill but if its loaded with 6550's or KT88's its gonna be a clean headroom low end monster most likely. Find an amp you like (Say the model T) and find out what makes it unique and see if theres anything else out there that compares to it or has similar qualities. I know you seemed offended when Skully linked that Let Me Google That For You link but its how everyone starts, google is near infinite and I guarantee your not the first person to ask about it so do your own research. You say your a straight shooter so I'm giving it to you straight, this thread moves so fast that questions that are easily googled are often as seen as "Why should I research for you what you can research on your own?!?!". Now questions on obscure or complete custom gear, and pedals that the builders are a part of this site will probably get you a rack ton of answers and debate as theyre not readily available or discussed out side of this forum. I understand the mentality of just getting into gear and trying to find your own unique voice and I guarantee everyone here is more than willing to help you out, but I suggest google searching first and foremost.

If you think w're being dicks try going to the http://www.talkbass.com stoner / doom thread in the bassists section and ask what rig Dixie Dave uses. :thumb:

I like ya kid, just trying to help ya out.

Any. Goddamn. Amp. Will. Work.

But I get the whole not wanting to get stuck with an amp that doesn't work for what you're doing, so go out and play as many of them as you can within your budget.

I mean, trial and error is gonna happen, but try out any amp you can. You'll be surprised at some of the more affordable options we've suggested. Go to a few different stores in the area and see what you can find!
