Here's a quick question - do you chaps think I'm better off using 2 amp heads with a cab each, or 1 head with TWO cabs?

Not sure I want to keep my Sunn, but I've got a second 4x12 arriving. If I want to pair it up with my AOR, I'll need to buy new speakers to match impedance.

Choices choices....

2 heads, one cab each. You can get a thicker sound with two different heads. Of course, you can't go wrong with a single head and 2 cabs either.

That man is a goddamn beast.
Yes he does, he also has drum techs and 4 hour sound checks to make sure it all works. He used to use these siemens or something a rather octopad things that had 8 zones and he had them scattered throughout his kit so he could do any sound off any album. Fucking insane.

Oh fucking hell yeah he is.

Random info: Apparently they are getting ready to tour again and signed Yob on for the dates in the PNW. Dog Damn I hate being on the other side of the country.
Yeah I was bummed I had to miss Tool + Yob when they hit the East Coast a couple years ago. Would've been rad. Always cool bands opening at Tool Shows.
good deals are here.

I'll just wait, play about with the Sunn/Laney combination, pray the speakers in the Bassman cab are loud enough to compete with my Swamp Thangs and Governors and make a decision from there.

Still have to figure out what on the Sunn needs fixing too. UGH.

Pretty sure I've told this story but I remember watching Tool at the Tweeter in Mass and listening to the chick sitting in front of me decrying "shitty local bands" to her friend when Isis was opening.

Isis and Tool under the stars was pretty fucking awesome, though.

Gentry Densley(Eagle Twin/Hex Cabs) just made a point about multi amp rigs using signal splitters yesterday, quoted:

"If the amps are different there's a possibility they could be 180 degrees out of phase, and there goes all your low end! Get a Phase WIzard and it addresses phase, grounding, and gain issues that arise with multi amp setups. Each gain stage flips the phase... it sounds hollow. If it sounds worse with 2 amps they are out of phase and canceling each other."

Then of course he told everyone about the "Phase Wizard" he builds that will tackle any problems like this. $300+ depending on how many sends you have put in...but the specs look awesome and both Boris and Sunn O))) use em...here was his description:

"Stereo inputs, for guitar pickups and bass pickup, and those have 3 outputs each. Each output has 1 gain and phase control, plus a ground lift for each side. Not a simple splitter. That said, it's a lifesaver especially if you play overseas or festivals. You have no idea how the amps or even the cabs they give you are gonna be phased. And the issues the power and grounding can have on everything. The Phase Wizard helps solve all these issues."

This. I'm partial to The Judge myself, but I certainly wouldn't turn up my nose at a 67.

Good man. Although, to be honest, I'd much rather have a Chevelle than a GTO.

I saw Cynic open for Meshuggah and all the Meshuggah fans were talking shit on cynic. Saying its too soft and complaining about the samples of the spiritual guru speaking between songs.

Correct me of I am wrong but couldn't you just reverse the polarity of one of the cabs at it's input jack and BAM! back in phase.

Skip, Look up a band Called "Hot Victory" they are two drummers who use acoustic kits and triggers and synths and noise weirdo stuff. Very cool. I'm aware of the guys who use triggers for their djenty blast beat bs, that doesn't really interest me. But using it as something to create new ways of fleshing out the overall sound is pretty cool and very interesting IMO.

I do love that all those guys are really open about using triggers now though. Big change from ten years ago - Meshuggah excepted.
