Favorite Fuzzhugger
So I got this gift certificate for a Fuzzhugger product. I have never played any of his offerings other than a phantom octave. Which of his many are your favorites? I am leaning towards an absynth but am open to whatever. Regarding the absynth, there are several versions and I am unsure if the one with more knobbage are really worth it or a stock one is good enough. The velcrobot and the upper have both also caught my attention. Thanks for any insight.

Well AB-Synth IS amazing. It's versatile when it comes to flipping crazy oscillation, it can do all kinds of funny sounds. And it's got ungodly amount of saturation to the fuzz, I mean - fuzz dialed to noon gives You more than many high gain distortions users can even dream of.
I've also grown to like my Algal Bloom a lot, when You learn it a bit You realize there's so much to it: I can do vintage bass od/fuzz with it, slight guitar break up, angry open fuzz chords, sizzling one string leads and pretty badly crapped out blown stuff too.
And then there's SO many more great circuits Tom does... plus he's a real ace and listens close if You come up with some crazy idea for a custom version of some of his circuits. You don't have to believe me, there's more than a few of us happy Fuzzhugger fx custom shop customers around here.
Just ask anybody.

My favorite Fuzzhugger is sonidero!
Edit:
I really like my AB-Synth 5k... I tried the Magic Meter from the tour box andit's on my want list with the Suneater (never tried this one).

My favorites are the ones made by Tom...
The extra knob on the Ab is for gain and I find it useful... The Ab or Algal would be a great place to start, then you can start getting customs when you find out what works for you... The Upper will stack with anything and adds weirdness and clang... If you want an all around I would check the Magic Meter...

Arc flash is best! I say it in all fuzz threads!
Clean boost, grit, fuzz,,amp exploding, it does everything.
I had an AB synth with 4 knobs and found myself really wanting a gain knob. As bassus says, it's insanely high gain. And awesome. But yeah, def picking up a 5 knobber.
Tom is on record saying the Velcrobot is his best pedal. Hanging out to try one - if it's better than an arc flash my head may explode.

Re: Favorite Fuzzhugger
I just got a AB-Synth XS and Lab Ratchet
Still getting to know them but I already love them both
I've had an Algal Bloom for a long time, and while I really like it and it's super versatile, it just seems to be missing something special to me
I also really want to try an Upper, Velcrobot, and Tremulust
Anything Fuzzhugger is pretty amazing though, you can't go wrong

I have a Fuzz Huger and the name say's it all. HUGE!!!! That thing is awesome. I also know he didn't make a lot of them, so it adds to the awesomeness. Haven't rocked any of his other offerings but i'm definitely open to the experience.

As you know, I got the other GC to Fuzzhugger, so maybe I can help with the decision.amnesiac305 wrote:So I got this gift certificate for a Fuzzhugger product. I'm going to spend mine on an Algal Bloom, with a couple tweaks. I've tried a bunch of Fuzzhugger, but somehow never got the chance to try an Algal. But every clip I've heard has blown me away with how open and uncompressed it is, which is rare for a fuzz.
My first FH was an AB-Synth, and it a great thick fuzz with the most controllable oscillation I've ever seen. It blows away the Fuzz Factory with how easy it is to dial in your oscillation. Mine was a 4-knobber. In various tour boxes, I've also gotten to try the Arc Flash, the Phantom Ring, the Lab Ratchet and the Magic Meter. The Arc Flash was cool because it was lower gain, but still had oscillation. The Phantom Ring had that Green Ringer vibe, where it was halfway better an upper octave and a ring mod. The Magic Meter was like a swiss army knife that did a ton of different tones. The Lab Ratchet was my other favorite, it really really screams.
If I weren't getting an Algal, the Lab Ratchet is what I'd be getting.

I never really bonded with my Algal Bloom on bass, I'd love to try a Bass Bloom sometime.
That said, the Magic Meter is CRAZY good on bass. So super versatile, and it is a great sort of "barely there" OD.
