0 difference for a tube amp. 16 ohm is easier when you wanna start adding more cabs to the load tho.conky wrote:So what would the benefits be of rewiring my cabs from 16 to 4 ohms? Any difference in tone, work the amp more/less?

Re: The Doom Room: ILF Edition
I've been daisy chaining my cabs and running them into one output on my head (head has 2 outputs and is selectable from 4, 8, and 16 ohms). Reading a few pages back about ohms being more efficient just got me wondering if I could get a little louder or what kind of results I'd get if I rewired them to 4 ohms.new05002 wrote:0 difference for a tube amp. 16 ohm is easier when you wanna start adding more cabs to the load tho.conky wrote:So what would the benefits be of rewiring my cabs from 16 to 4 ohms? Yeah, once you have multiple 4 ohm cabs running more than a single cab becomes tricky with most amps as they don't sport 2 ohm output options. I'd keep 'em at 16 ohm personally.

Ohms will matter for solid state amps where decreasing the impedance from say 8 to 4 will double power so long as the amp can run stably at that load. However for tube amps it means nothing to have it at 4 or 16 if the load is matched. No such efficiency argument to be made.

Re: The Doom Room: ILF Edition
Ahh, gotcha. I've always thought 4 or 8 ohms was easier on an output tranny than 16, but I guess as long as its matched it would look the same. I've seen some people say that they like 8 ohms better than 16 because of the sound.new05002 wrote:Ohms will matter for solid state amps where decreasing the impedance from say 8 to 4 will double power so long as the amp can run stably at that load. i think thats just core sniffing. If someone showed me a single blind test where people could even tell which was 4 vs 8 vs 16 ohms then I might consider that a possibility.

Pretty much what I wanted to say. They used to come play my basement in Eugene and I've seen some of those dudes playing in bands since the '90s. They're four of the sweetest people you'll ever meet and their work ethic is second to none. More power to them.assface jackson wrote:
Stoked for those dudes- I go back a ways with a coupleathem bros and I gotta say I prefer the music of their previous projects. But I'm really happy they're still grinding it out and seeing some success from all the hard work.

I met 'em when they played St.L last year and they were a great bunch of dudes. I loved their first couple records but I can't get into the new one at all. Still happy to see them have some success though, well deserved.humancertainty wrote:Pretty much what I wanted to say. Bad ass! Making me really envious. I really like semi hollow and hollow bodies for some reason. Having an aluminum one would be extra killer. Congratulations dude.

Did anyone notice that John was wearing the same shirt that he did in the Wires video?AxAxSxS wrote:Not sure how I feel about this.

On the one hand I wish them all the success in the world, on the other I like seeing bands in small clubs and not paying a bunch to do it. This does not bode well for that.

Between that and Shannon's EGC....too much sexy.
Subrosa are cool.
I've officially given up on the Sovtek.
My only hope is that the amp tech I usually see is open to trades for a diagnostic....hopefully a repair.
Probably not.
I am up shit's creek.

Re: The Doom Room: ILF Edition
been a lot of good stuff in the last couple of pages...Schnikes EGC guitar is ridiculously nice...and that ampeg, wow...just wow.
Pope...that sucks about the Sovtek man...hope you can get it fixed somehow. I know that stuff would be super rare down in Oz. Also, i saw your post about going to Bunnings for your pedalboard...does Bunnings still do sausage sizzle on sundays???
