What are the drums for...?...Learning how to play....? recording....?....aggression release....?.....Is it just to see if you like playing the drums....? Sound aside, cheap drums are fine for learning, but it could get discouraging if the kick pedal is crap and it makes you think that you suck, but really it's the pedal that is interfering with your ability to get better.

As an alternative to settling for a cheap kit, you can find a number of different types of hand drums/percussion for under $200 with nicer quality.
