B) Emperos is clearly the fourth best RC record, behind the demo, Enter, Geneva, and Station (in no particular order). Axel just likes it for THE PROG.
C) It's easier than one, two, three.

Maaaaybe not. It's definitely the RC record I listen to the least. Therefore it is indisputably their worst.DarkAxel wrote:Oh come on i don't see it being more proggy than the rest

I liked it pretty good. I actually really like the song with Chelsea on it. My only comment, and this covers most all of post rock-ish stuff is that it still really sticks to a formula. I enjoy it, but at a point I get bored because it's the same patterns over and over.
Oh, and Enya for heavy music jockriders might be more like all of that folksy Norwegian stuff that black metal dudes have a boner for. Wolfe's definitely got her own sound.

I miss Enter-era Russian Circles. They had such a unique sound back then that set 'em apart from the rest of the enormous post-rock crowd. Need to give this new one a listen soon.

Honestly I think Enter and Station sounded more like the post-rock crowd than the later albums. /shrugHoly Schnikes wrote:I miss Enter-era Russian Circles. Re: New Russian Circles
Given it two full listens now and I think it's allright, and got a lot better even through the second listen and also as the record progressed. It's not bad at all, but there's something about RC that doesn't quiite get to me. I mean, they're not bad at all, but they're lacking that extra spice up top. Perhaps seeing them live will change that? A lot of bands sound better on record after you've experienced it live. Kinda puts you in their world in a better way, you know? I wish they'd done a little bit of kill your darlings on the record though, since there's too many passages that just don't do anything, not even for the atmosphere.
Extra credit however, should be given Ryan Russel for the photographs. Bloody amazing. Seeing them made the whole record more interesting. Fact is, I'd probably much rather just look at the photos than listen to the record.
Verdict: Good, but inconsistent. Could've been a lot better. Or maybe I'm expecting the wrong things of it.
Edit: Ok, so after talking to a friend who's been following this band through the years (they've never really stuck with me but because of the lack of other interesting stuff coming out I decided to give Memorial a chance) I'm now giving "Enter" a listen and two or maybe three things strike me.
1. How bloody awful the new album is compared to this!
2. How insane it is that they brought this on in 2006. Absolutely brilliant!
3. How much I can hear other acts I like in it and how it probably has inspired those.

The new album for me was good, just a bit underwhelming. Maybe I won't "get it" until I see it live.

To me it's like... sounded okay at first, but after a while you feel like there are tracks that kind of hurt the album a bit
