Re: Let's see your GUITAR!
Dude, it really will save your ass. Duct tape has nothing on toothpicks. My bass VI is 25% toothpicks, it really increases the sustain and creates the proper environment for harmonic diffusion and refinement.
I don't see any reason you couldn't switch it out for a guitar neck other than that you'll need a new bridge. You also gotta move the bridge forward to match the scale length the guitar neck is made for. It will probably throw the weight off a little. If you keep the bass pickups the string spacing will be a little off. I've had problems with low volume on the outer strings when the strings were wider than the pickups, but never when they were more narrow. The volume balance for each string might be slightly off but I doubt it'll make too much of a difference, especially if you're gonna be running into pedals on pedals.
That's the real advantage of cheaper guitars, you can experiment with them and if something's off, just change it again, it ain't a big deal. There's less emphasis on "don't fuck this up, don't fuck this up, don't fuck this up."

Hey Achtanc, what kind of body/neck is that scalloped fret guitar? It looks rad. And the head stock looks like it might be big enough to make into a 12 or 9 string........

It's a Kawai "Tele-Star". I really like the shape, too, and it's super duper light, the lightest guitar I've ever held. It may as well be called semi-hollow with all the routing they did. It's very resonant, relatively, when unplugged.
I think I'm done with this one, but you're definitely right. Plenty of real estate left to get weird with. I was gonna put a pickup behind the bridge but maaaaan, I didn't feel like routing any more, plus I'm totally out of wire and stuff. I was thinking of attaching the neck to the body with a spring system one time. Like Jad Fair's guitar but more practical.
I kinda wanna trace out the shape for the distant future/alternate reality where I'll have enough tools to build stuff from scratch.

That's a mean looking tele, I dig it. Who really needs a bridge pickup anyway?

Re: Let's see your GUITAR!
Maybe it's growing up in the Bay Area and hearing too many smooth Santana solos but I've just never been a neck pickup guy but I'd admire the hell out of the defiance to not only not have a bridge pickup but to not even have it drilled out.
