I think a lot of people do use the onboard gain of a good amp...and then a tubescreamer to goose it.
That's what I mean. I'd rather just get the right amp first and EQ the amp to fit that 'djent' sound.
I generally find amp gain falls short of a lot of pedals, simply because you can't get an amp to sound as massive as a Big Muff. But when an amp company gets that sound in my head—Marshall Super Lead, Soldano SLO100, Fryette Deliverance, Sunn Model T, Matamp GT1, Tone King Falcon/Sky King—I prefer it than any pedal I know of. I just think tube amps sound better when they are done right. Crystal lattice and all that shit.

Would you be able to compare the mid boost to, say, a tubescreamer? I need more MIDS, the Middleman is at THE TOP of my list. I just haven't heard enough about it or GH to pull the trigger yet. Well made? Good parts?
I sold my Tubescreamer so I could buy this. In my honest opinion (which is always correct), the Middle Man is the way to go for boost.
I can tell you right now Greenhouse Effects are incredible. Excane has tried most (or all) of 'em and I'm sure he'll agree they're well built with solid parts. I'd love to try 'em all out, but I really want the Goldrive, Sludgehammer, and Retro Sky.
Add the NoBrainer to that list.... it's fuuuuucking AWEEeesSSOME
Greenhouse makes amazing stuff and Roy (the owner and builder) is one of the nicest dudes I've ever met in the pedal biz.

Yep! I really like TS into other pedals or an amp. The bass cut tightens things up, treble cut gets rid of some fizz and the mids get all crunchy. Good fun. But I'm all about the bass cut.
Ps jero check out summits Sunday gas thread - I posted some gear thoughts for ya.

That’s quarter-assed at best.
Tried to downsize and then couldn't resist scaling straight back up a bit - riding the guitar controls a lot more these days and happier for it though. Adore the FFF!

^ Yes, please - more info on the non-reverse Firebird! Is that one of the Studio models? Looks like one of the first batch (ie, pre-raid) with a rosewood fretboard. These days I think they're all baked maple…
More about greenhouse. Never tried one. The middle man looks awesome. I have been wanting a Remedy fuzz since around when this video came out but never found a used one.
