Moog ring mod replacements?

Post by Gozu »

So I've decided to maybe ditch my moog in favour of something smaller. I love it but the space/power requirements just ain't worth it...

Suggestions? Would like it to be in the same price/trade region...

Cheers gents!

I own and love a v2 Randy's Revenge, def a good option.

Also, Subdecay is about to unleash the Vitruvian Mod. Easily the smallest of the bunch and the recent demos sound crazy good! I'll post the link here, just scroll down to the bottom of the page for the video:

Ah yeah! I saw that! Quite like the look. The randies looks good too but I think might go for
a little more than the moog will resell for... Hmm

Frostwave Blue Ringer, Copilot FX has two ring mods, and EHX as well. Devo used the EHX Frequency Analyzer.

There's also something new from dr sci that might do the trick. BitQuest. Coming soon.

I've got a copilot planetoid and it's a really different beast to the moog or randy. It seems more... I dunno, lofi and aggressive. Good fun!

I think the EHX is by far the best sounding ring mod I've ever heard. I had the Moog and it has a ton of bells n whistles. But just for sound the EHX wins. But it has a really funky power, and that's a little annoying.

yeah one of the things that annoys the shit out of me is the power requirements of the moog.

Wait, what's so hard about the Moog's power? It's 9VDC, and I think it only draws about 200 mA, which isn't too bad all things considered. I've got quite a few pedals that draw a lot more than that. :idk:

and if you use anything other than its own wall wart it churns up some crazy line noise including but not limited to just not bypassing when off

i love this thing but it's gotten so impractical

just gonna sell the fucker i think. no ones gonna trade me for a smaller equally as good ring mod :picard:

Weird, I've never had trouble powering a Moog on a PP2 or Cioks. Basically, as long as it's isolated, it's fine. Just don't daisy chain it. And most power supplies come with positive tip cables.
