Ampeg to Reissue V-4B (Again?)

Post by warwick.hoy »

I don't know enough about vintage V-4s to know how this Reissue will stack up but I am intrigued.

Seems like it's lightened up compared to the OGs and it's likely to be an Asian Import, but it's a 100 watt all tube bass head that'll do 8/4/2 ohms. If it comes in at around a grand; I'd love to have one to compare and contrast with my 300watt SVT.

It will be interesting. I have heard a lot of good things about the amp and every time I have heard it in person I liked the tone. Never have gotten to play through one though. But I have also heard there are a lot of little gremlins in the circuit, so I wonder if they worked those out.

Certainly looks the part from the front.
41 lbs. is a pretty far cry from the vintage V4B I'm hauling around, whoa.

Yeah, my V4 feels like it weighs double that, just a behemoth both physically and sonically. That reissue looks minuscule, not much bigger than the GVT15 head I'm guessing. Should be way more compact/portable.

Nice to see another V4B reissue tho, about time! However, based on the build quality of the recent (now discontinued) Chinese GVT heads, I'd expect build quality to be shitty at best. The Korean GVTs were pretty nice all around, maybe the V4B will be produced there....

Ampeg put up a V4B demo showcasing it's "grind". I'm having issues embedding goddamnit so I'll just throw up the link...

Yeah, I figured the price would be ridiculous as the last V4B reissue was around $1100. Why pay that when you can get the real deal for sooooooooooo much less? Craziness.

Also, you'd think Ampeg could throw together a more legit clip by now...

I've only seen them show up for $1000 locally and they rarely hit the market.

I'm not really all that impressed by that clip. I'd have to hear the thing. With my bass. Through my cabs. Before I could make a for real judgement call anyhow.
