Is this a good idea?

Post by alexa. »

So like, I've got this Warwick Streamer LX, and I wanna supermegamorph it into a bass VI.
I'm still in the 'is it viable' range, so I need info.

It looks something like this:

I would get a new neck, 30' scale, local custom. Possibly a bit wider if I decide to get a bit wider string spacing.

1. What can I do about the bridge and what bridge would you get? I'm thinking through-body or individual saddles (for wider string spacing). PERHAPS a bigsby, cuz I'm kinky like that.
2. Can I leave the pickups as they are or would I need different ones cuz of the string spacing/etc.?
3. Is filling the pu-holes (and bridge holes as well) with wood and glue and digging new holes, a good idea?
I'd even leave them open for that mad max look, but they go deep man O_o

what is the current scale? if you have a longer scale, either the neck length (not the scale length) or the bridge position must be altered or it'll never play in tune because tou won't be able to intonate it properly. you'd better find out if the neck is workable before worrying about the other stuff.

It's a regular 34' bass. Seeing as how the bridge should be taken out anyway, I think dealing with it won't be a problem. Just have to measure it correctly.

Hmm. If I get individual saddles, I can get align them like so:

and it should help with the intonation right?
HMMMMMMMM
Think I'm going with that. (14.5mm is the minimum string spacing of single bridges)

blablablabla

edit(s): after some experiments I got to 13-12mm of desired bridge string spacing:
and this is the only bridge that does it

12.7mm minimum. BUT HOLY DAMN FUCK, THAT PRICE

You should probably just look at guitar bridges, string spacing should be pretty close, people have made 34" scale p basses into bass vi's with only a hardtail guitar bridge and new nut, I think I saw them on the offset guitars forum. Good luck man, sounds like a fun project! I've got a bass to bass vi conversion cooking too, this is kinda inspiring me to finish it.

If you're getting a custom neck and fancy bridge, aren't you pretty much at the cost of a Squier VI?

I am, but I've got a problem with fender necks so I'm not sure it would work for me (long fingers and wrist problems).
Kinda fell in love with the body shape of my baby.. I really can't see me going back to flat backs xD

(I may even go full power and pull a fanned neck O_O we'll see, anyway.)
