Signal Chain/ Effects Chain help

Post by drehpehs »

My current effects chain is:
Guitar > Ernie Ball VP Jr [(Tuner out) > HT2] > EM-Drive > Bad Monkey (Modded by JHS) > CM2 > Behringer US600 > MXR KK 10 band EQ > JHS Prestige > DR Scientist mini RRR > Behringer FX 600 > Strymon El Capistan

is that a good order, or should I re-arrange some of the pedals?

I'll give the general answer that we all seem to give here: play around with it. Move stuff in unusual places. Experiment. You will find what works best for you. We seem to be a group that doesn't care about a set 'order' and it seems a lot of us like to think unconventionally about our pedal chains. So take a few hours one day and just move all your pedals around and see what works best for you!

Also, your guitar might end up sounding better if you just have your tuner plugged in as part of the chain and not on the tuner output of the volume pedal, just a suggestion as I know there can be some tone suck!

+1 to what he said. Personally I loooove having a dirt pedal after reverb, so maybe try that out with one of yours? It's a really cool gritty sound that I use all the time, might not be for you but like skully said play around!

Everything Skully said, basically.

I tend to actively avoid putting things in normal order, or setting up a 'normal' order inside of a second 'normal' order (i.e. dirt > modulation > delay followed immediately by another dirt > modulation > delay).

Long story short, there is no 'correct' way to do things, so just do whatever the hell you want, and if it sounds good to you then roll with it.

I agree with the ^^^
but my personal preference is long reverb>modulation (hopefully 3+ flangers :) )>compressor>dirt>delay>fluffy reverb
I cant do dirt>modulation. It just doesn't jive with me at all. And ILF taught to love the verbwich :p

All personal preference but try putting the volume pedal after the drives but before the verb/delay. That way you can swell in/out your volume while keeping full gain but your verb and delay trails won't be cut off. The way you have it's reducing input signal to your overdrives. But that's fine if that's how you want it.
