ya on that note i will also make available to people with a 2 sec version an upgrade kit which should only require swapping out the 3 socketed ics. details on that as it happens. it is definitely possible, the pinout of the circuit has not changed, although a few of the part models have.

it is mostly like a delay, though maybe it doesn't quite sound like one. You basically set a fixed buffer size that is constantly getting recorder to (at a fixed rate/direction). Then imagine a playback head, constantly reading back the buffer, that you can speed up/slow down/change direction and then feed that result back into whets being written to the buffer. ITs actually pretty straightforward, but gives surprisingly exotic sounding results.
A few dats ago i was doing more research for another pedal im making and I came across a site with a lot of effects programmed in Java. They had something a bit similar to this in spirit and called it a 'lifted delay'. Not sure how widely used that terminology is though.
