I have to say the kit was a good way for me to go . I have never tried to build a pedal before . It was a lot of fun !
I have herd the originals . I used to own one years ago . I bought it for $5 and sold it for $50 . Yup the good old days !!
I used my friends on a recording last year . Thats what led me to the kit .
I have have not had the chance to compare them side by side .
These are the differences I can think of off the top of my head .
The original does loose volume when kicked in . That can be compensated in the studio no problem but can be an issue if you are using it live.
I also think the volume drop has some thing to do with the sound of the originals .
The original is quite aggressive but has a certain compression and low end thats hard to explain..Its friggin awesome !!! Its got that killer chain saw thing but really quite smooth . One of the main parts in the original is almost impossible to find so the kit uses a substitute. That also has something to do with the difference in the sound of the two. Also the original is not true bypassed . Thats a sound difference as well . I think some vintage pedals sound better the original way with out true bypass.

The kit sounds killer to me . The volume drop isnt there . The GGG kit addresses that on the board . Some guys say it doesn't affect the sound but I think it does . I think it may be better . Its also very aggressive . I dont think its quite as compressed as the original . I think that has something to do with the volume boost . I did the mid mod . I think its a very useful and killer mod . To me it brings the pedal to another level for what I can use it for .
Of course the kit uses modern parts so that also contributes to the difference in sound . Ive herd some clones sound close to they originals they are made after and some that sound nothing like the originals . That comes down to a few things . This one sounds very close if not better to me .
Im sure you guys no way more about this stuff then I do . I also think a good pedal builder would be able to get or have some parts to get it closer to the original parts

I just built one of these and added the Mids pot.

If you're using a GGG fabricated circuit board (e.g., one you ordered from GGG), there is a super-easy way to add the extra pot.

What the mod does is add a pot between C7 (100nF) and ground. That's it. And the GGG board is already set up to allow this, with one minor modification. The fabbed boards have the "jumper" spots connected on the top side with copper traces. It's hard to see at first, but those traces are there, so there's no need to actually add a jumper.

But, we want to break the connection between C7 and ground, and there is a trace making this connection. So the first step is to cut that trace to break the connection. Use the continuity test function on your DMM to verify that the trace has been severed.

With that done, it's simply a matter of using the jumper spot's pads to connect the Mids pot. One pad goes to lug 3, the other goes to lug 1. Then connect lug 3 and lug 2 with a short piece of wire.

Done. :thumb:

Below is an image of the relevant portion of the layout, with the two jumper pads mentioned above pointed out.
