There's an SVT-3 Pro on my local cl for $350. It's a hybrid: tube pre, ss power.
Anyone have any experience with these?

I know Nathan from Tera Melos uses one and I dig his tone.

i skipped this entire thread to post this:

unless you are overdriving (clipping) and of the stages in a tube amp (preamp, phase splitter, power section) then it doesnt make a difference if its solid state or tube. same goes for guitar amps.

this is assuming that the solid state am in question was designed well.

Yeah I have a 200T right now, and it's not bad, but it doesn't sound super awesome until I turn on my Mini for light/medium clipping, which is almost all the time. I guess is why I'm wondering about the SVT-3 Pro as to have the clipping, potentially more volume, and extra EQing on board.

It's not like I gig/can play loud and it really matters. I feel so dumb sometimes looking at potentially better amps

I love it to death.
I'm in the process of tracking down another one to round out my setup.

Same. There's a Peavey Mark III head and 215 on CL for $300 and I keep thinking about how cool it would be to have a (nearly) matching stereo setup...but there's no point

I used one in the 90's I took no issue with it soundwise.

It was a bit quiet but I chalk that up to noob inexperience thinking wattage = volume where as wattage+driver area = volume.

It did break down at one point; but I think that was likely because I had no idea how to run an amp at proper impedance back then.

So a seemingly well regard hybrid amp. I'd offer $250 for it and be prepared to pay $300.

EDIT: Comparison pricing on ebay; $350 isn't a bad deal if it's in good working order. Is it one of the older models?

Still using my Eden tube amp and still digging it. I've thought about and actually tried to sell it a couple times, but in all honesty, I'm glad I didn't. It sounds soooooooo good to my ears. I would however like to have a separate solid state amp and cab for when I feel like playing that way.

No flamage here. I take no issue with solid state gear and have used it satisfactorily (as well as hybrid amps) in the past.

My perspective on all gear is that every piece of equipment; from the lowliest entry level guitar and plastic pedal to the most expensive boutique amps, guitars and effects, has a voice and it's our job as musicians to find that voice.

Then you just attract a bunch of hairy, straight dudes who happen to like older gear.

Like me.

What's scary is how right you are.
Anywho, I passed up a killer price on a YBA 3. Damn it.
But it's not like their hard to find or anything.
