Did you play in Knoxville?

someone told me that there is a bar/restaurant in the wig sphere now!

Sounds rad! I've been there once a couple of years ago, really liked it. My roomie in Bonn came from there. We went to see a show at a place called pilot light. No idea if it still exists. But yea, the whole absurdity of murrica sort of climaxed in that city. At least for an European. Never got to drink no moonshine though. :(

I flipped out on my boss today. Quietly and calmly. But very very harsh and blunt.

I said: "What you're suggesting isn't done. Anywhere. For anything. It isn't done because it doesn't make sense. If you want it to not make sense, that's fine. I don't care. I'll set it up like that. But I don't know why on earth you would want to do that."

I also relate to Seinfeld and Simpsons.

Sometimes I can relate to other shows as well, but those are the main two. I wish I could relate more to shows like Archer, Morel Orel, Bob's Pizza, and Home Movies.

Who on ILF is Tina from Bob's Pizza? Emily (stripes)?

dubkitty wrote:i have a repertoire that i run through whenever i test a new instrument, usually guitars. first i hit three or four cowboy chords and see what the pickups/resonance sounds like. often a G chord is enough to send it back to the rack. if i get past the cowboy chords then i run through a series of different styles of playing: some bluegrass/Bakersfield country stuff on the bass strings, some Stephen Stills blues licks on the 7th/9th fret, some chords up the neck with open strings ringing through them, a couple of power chords, a bit of octavey jazz stuff with some densely voiced chords to see if the chords turn to mud, and then some passages from the songs i've written/am working on.

I like that! I'm always at a loss when it comes to testing guitars, I'll generally end up playing Cowgirl in the Sand or something I've played a thousand times and can riff on a bit because that's how I normally play, but a structured test of different things seems like a really good idea to me. Definitely keeping that in mind for buying guitars in the future. :thumb:

So how'd that go over?

i've been out of one of my psych meds for a week because i'm broke and had to arrange to go to the county hospital to get my meds renewed. so for the last week i've gradually been getting more and more uncomfortable, unhappy, and hostile. i've been barely managing to avoid huge arguments on the forums i frequent, and just plain fucking hate existence. happily, they're gonna have my medication ready to pick up tomorrow, though i'm going to have to drive from here to downtown Chicago to pick them up.

i so wish i could have just been a regular normal person instead of having to spend my life fighting my brain because it's smarter than i am. the only time i've ever felt comfortable in my life is when i'm on opoids, and that's not exactly a sustainable life strategy.

I feel your pain, man. The longest I've gone without my medication is a day and I become a complete fucking mess. I'm with an awesome doctor right now and last time I saw him, he sent me home with a free month's supply and a prescription for three months. Unfortunately I pay out of pocket right now, but he said he's going to try to get me more.

Fucking rules.

the only way i'm getting by for a week is that i'm staying at my cousin's house (he's usually out of town on work contracts) and i'm not working, so i don't have to deal with other humans. that, and eating Klonopins like they're M&Ms.

Whenever I pick up my acoustic I consider throwing all my electric instruments out the window. But I know the itch will come back. Merp.

the nice thing about playing acoustic for me is that the only thing i have to think about is actually operating the guitar. it's so simple compared to setting up boards, plugging in shit, turning on power strips, etc. etc. Of course, the other side is that i can't make my 000 do all those synth-dropped-in-the sink sounds.

Troof.
It's hard to make it sound like an NES vomiting, but you can't get the same delicious rattle on electric as you can with acoustic + floppy strings.
And slide + archtop sounds sooooooo good. I would play mine a lot more if the action wasn't awful...the bridge is as low as it gets, of course there's no truss rod to adjust and the strings are still super high. Dunno how to fix anything that isn't an electric guitar. But then again, the shitty action is what makes it so good for slide playing...

Also, contact mics. CONTACT MICS ON EVERYTHING.

yeah, i love the sound of an acoustic with light/medium gauge strings tuned down a full step so the low strings go DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG when you smack them hard and go a little sharp.

So how'd that go over?

He caved, but I'm sort of wary about how he took that whole conversation... I'm planning on quitting at the beginning of the Summer though anyway so I'm not hugely worried.
