The Doom Room: ILF Edition

the band I'm in are getting a jam space, I've never had a jam space before. Stoked.

Do any of you guys have a jam space? I'm quite excited about it!

Dude you guys are stoked. I got my first jam spot around the same age and it RULES.

Just got kicked out of our spot of a meager year and a half, landlord is a paranoid meth dude that flipped out saying we were defaming his character by asking if he knew where a set of headphones that were in our room went...

Anyway, it sucks being technically homeless...having a spot of your very own definitely adds to the music, creativity, and overrall morale of the band. Exhumed is finished rehearsing and recording their new album and they were gracious enough to let us use their space while we try to find our own warehouse to customize into mega all-time jamroom.

Hell yes! a little worried about leaving gear in there though...
Yeah it'll work out better for sure, we'll chill there and shit too.

That sucks about your space man, that dude sounds nuts. I probably wouldn't have dealt with that guy in the first place to be honest, drug addicts are the most unpredictable people haha.

, look for a local woodworkers club, theres one here and they let me buy time there so i can use anything I dont have yet, like bandsaw/thicknesser etc.

while lookin for a garage/shop
i came across a greenhouse
on a farm near by
that the girls ex husband converted into a shop
he left the ventilation system
some big mdf work surfaces
and a planer,big compressor,and some other stuff
mathias is involved in that makerspace thing
and i got it in my head to do somethin like that
the owner was totally down for the idea
they are like waldorf/anthro/joseph steiner people
i wouldnt do it to make money
but if it could fund a huge shop like that
and other people could enjoy it too
i think id have made it close to heaven
can you pop some info about that club wizard
im gettin sick of ripping and sanding
in my living room

Hahaha yeah man...we rolled with the punches for awhile since we were getting such a great rate ($150/mo for 24/7 lockout). Probably would have thought twice if he had direct access to our room but we put our own locks on the first week.

These type of people have a knack for putting up a facade for the first month or two because they desperately need the money...then as time goes on the illusion is ever harder to uphold and then...yeah. Dude was actually pretty cool and non-existent for most of the time we were there...then he wen't to hollywood...his ego was inflated by an america's got talent audition...he comes back all bigshot doucher with an obvious drug habit and shit just wen't downhill from there.

you ever hear of woodcraft magazine? They have an online store and a bunch of stores all over, the one near my house has a second floor thats all just tools and tables. you give them a few bucks and they give you whats like a time card, and you stamp it until you run out of hours. its a great place, and theres lots of cool dudes who like the same stuff and can help you out with things/share crazy ideas and stuff.

If you can get something like that going youd be the man, its fucking awesome. I use it mostly because I dont have space/money for a full size bandsaw or a 6000 dollar helical thicknesser right now.

Oh yeah, and aout the whole gear defining your sound thing:

BUT if you are a good player/good at turning knobs you can really make stuff work for you in ways you wouldnt think. I say this because right now im using a ENGL Fireball 100 which is the nastiest metal amp around right now, im boosting it with a maxon od808. AM I playing djent or death metal?

sickest surf rock sound going right now, playing a don grosh anniverserary strat with a ton of strymon blue sky on spring setting reverb. I AM DICK DALE RIGHT NOW.

Since we are still kinda on the topic of Noise Rock...I just discovered this band Arabrot today...and it's one of those bands that I wish I had been privy to for much longer.

I got a MXR Custom Comp to add to my rig as a pedal that would always be on...i have to say...the compression thing is really underwhelming! maybe i was expecting too much change to my tone and its not really doing that...or maybe i need to play with the controls a lot more...but i played with it for about 30mins last night and can't say it blew me away.

I can hear it working...and i can definitely hear the extra noise too...but, not sure if i like what i hear compared to when its off...i know Matt Pike had this on his board for a while and there other bands that i really like who use comps too (YOB)...wondering how they use it...does anyone here use one?

I have a Dyna Comp, I kinda dig it. Its not on my board right now, and I gave it to my brother ages ago and haven't got it back, so I'm not sure if it would work with my current setup or if I'd even want it there...the BF is pretty thick already...I really liked it for keeping faster chuggy chuggy stuff more tight. Nice for semi dirty tones, too. I guess the thing with compression is to have set so you don't really notice it. Very subtle.
