Do any of you guys have a jam space? I'm quite excited about it!

We have been bouncing for the past two months between my drummer and guitarist's houses. Shit sucked but we just moved into a climate controlled storage unit. We are packed in a 10x10 roombut it is great to have a dedicated space where we can crank the fuck out of our shit again.

But I fell into the trap and lie that so many other young people fall into: You can make any guitar worth five times its price by upgrading the hardware and electronics. This just isn't always true, and any professional builder would agree. Like you said, sometimes you come across a golden piece of timber, but you have to patient, and some people just don't have that in them. They want to be sure that what they're buying is the best it can possibly be.

I can agree to all of this my friend. I think the big difference is between modding a guitar and building one from parts. My telemasters are parts guitars, each component sourced and installed for a reason. Unlike modding which is just replacing what is all ready there, so I'm not investing more into my guitar I'm just investing into the guitar. Sometimes with Parts builds youc an get your money back or maybe a little bit more but you don't often lose your ass like you do when just modifying a guitar. Modifying seems to ALWAYS decrease the price, unless you find the perfect buyer who wanted the exact same mods you all ready did.

Here are the bands I can think of off the top of my head, if I think of any others ill let you know:

I agree with the 200 dollars of pups in the 100 dollar guitar thing. When I plan build for someone/myself I automatically use locking tuners, BKP pups and hipshot gear, high gradepots/caps and the like so down the road nothing will need to be "swapped out" Yeah it costs more upfront, but its already finished! Good wood is key too, the one im working on right now had a 500 dollar top that was harvested from a bog after 30,000 years of sludgy solitude. Doom creds if ive ever seen em hahhaa

Man this...if I had enough luthier experience to build custom guitars...that's exactly how I would do it. Hoping I have a window coming up soon to get you a down payment on that build we discussed...although it probably won't be until after June.

Dude you guys are stoked. I got my first jam spot around the same age and it RULES.

Just got kicked out of our spot of a meager year and a half, landlord is a paranoid meth dude that flipped out saying we were defaming his character by asking if he knew where a set of headphones that were in our room went...

Anyway, it sucks being technically homeless...having a spot of your very own definitely adds to the music, creativity, and overrall morale of the band. Exhumed is finished rehearsing and recording their new album and they were gracious enough to let us use their space while we try to find our own warehouse to customize into mega all-time jamroom.

I saw KWC last night, it was the first time I had heard of them, and they were awesome. What genre are they considered to fall under? Any recommendations for other bands like them? I tend to lurk in these doom threads, and I always like the videos that get posted and stuff. Lead me, dudes.

Sludge? Their new album is kinda Post-Metal-ish though. It's weird. I love it.

They're noise rock/sludge I'd say. I've been on a huge noise rock kick lately and as always will recommend Whores. Furthermore, Fight Amp (did a split with KWC), Black Sleep of Kali, (mostly early) Kylesa, and Harkonen (they're considered post-hardcore but are noisy and fun) are all good bands to check out.

YOUTUBE BOMB, songs from each band:

I have no jam space :(

Funny thing about that wood, if i sent you a pic of it youd hate it. Looks like some shit panelling ripped of a wall in an old barn. UNTIL you polish it up to super high grit, then it looks insane. But im not at that stage yet so it looks like old mahoganny basically. Pics will come when I get off my ass and finish it!!

TJ, is there a place where one can see pictures of the guitars you've built? like a website with a photo gallery or something?

also, thought of you yesterday when we were changing out our latest batch of mead. it's only a month old and it was the first carboy change, but it's already sooo good and it measures at over 16% alcohol already! woohoo! it's a crazy concoction. it has orange, ginger, rosemary, clove, cinnamon, and juniper berries. it was a risky undertaking with all that stuff, but it's turning out great. some of the flavors need to mellow out, but they will over the next six months. our last batch was the best i've ever made, or been involved with making. it was wild huckleberries that me and the lady harvested camping late last summer, supplemented with some blueberries. it's very boozy, pretty dry and fucking delicious. i have high hopes for this batch.
