I'm glad. It is one of those albums that has the ability to put me in the best mood. One of the most promising bands.

Anyone listened to the new Horrors album, Primary Colours? Very unexpectedly shoegaze and its amazing!

I'm pretty obsessed with the "Mirror's Image" "loomery" reverb sound.

Probably it's already been discuss, but can someone give me some suggestion or link on how to achieve that sound?
Something about : Reverse Reverb ---> delay ----> distortion ...I guess?

Well Josh uses an entire tape echo unit, and various fuzzes that he built, I'd recommend using fuzz instead of distortion and a very dark, warm analog delay.

Anyone listened to the new Horrors album, Primary Colours? Very unexpectedly shoegaze and its amazing!

I don't know about these guys. Just from that song it sounds like they wear their influences too much on their sleeves. I mean pretty much part for part Kevin Sheilds (MBV) on guitar, Peter Murphy (Bauhaus) on vocals, Bernard Sumner (Joy Division/New Order) on the synth, Simon Gallup (the Cure) on bass, and Stephen Morris (Joy Division/New Order) on drums.

Even the album cover...Pornography anyone??

True, but they are taking all these influences and mixing them together, which, in itself is unique. Plus compare how many bands that sound like Joy Division, The Cure, Bauhaus and My Bloody Valentine to how many band sound like Nickelback.

I'm personally very tired of this "bands wearing their influences too much on their sleeves" sentiment. Yeah, maybe each member sounds a good bit like the artists you listed, but they aren't blatantly ripping off one of those band's complete style. And even if they were I wouldn't really care because they've got some great songs on this album (Primary Colors) and I like their material regardless of what each member sounds like. You think Keith Richards was original? He was just ripping off Hubert Sumlin. Jimi Hendrix? Buddy Guy. Of course, these guys went on to develop their own sound but everyone wears their influences on their sleeve at somepoint in their career. Maybe The Horrors will develop more of their own sound late on, but for now I think this is a great record.

I mean, come on...wasn't it Bobby D showing us that all pop songs are based around the same 4 chords?

I fully agree... I think it might be more pronounced with The Horrors, since they were so starkly one thing with their debut, so when they switched it up, a lot of people were surprised. That said, I really like this track more than anything from their debut, so maybe I'll give them a proper listen now...

You really should. I think that a lot of people still have this image of them as just another hype band but this new record really made me love them, unfortunately they probably won't get as much acclaim as they deserve because of the "hype" they had, hahaha it's actually like anti-hype now. They're one of my favorite bands.

Yes, please give Primary Colors a good listen. I'm totally into this album (and not just because the guitars sound like something Kevin Shields might imagine if he were drunk).

sorry, that didn't really make perfect sense in general. I just meant if Kevin Shields from My Bloody Valentine were drunk and imagining guitar sounds, those sounds would probably sound something like the guitars on The Horrors latest album
