I don't know what it is but I guess by comparison I am pretty private about my gear. Anyhow while talking to Nick we got on Telemasters. I've had this body for months and I'm slowly getting together the other bits. I'm still on the phone with Nick but I'll tell more later if you want.

This could be the case, but I highly doubt it's going to equate to such a vast difference in price. What's more possible is it being a '68 reissue. Maybe it was made in 1995 as a reissue of the '68 era Gibson SG. Or it could have basically no original hardware/parts and simply be a block of wood from the 60's, and be really badly looked after. Either way it looks awesome and a guitar I've been looking into myself. I've been Jonesing after a Japanese SG with P90's, but they're hard to come by.

I guess that's exactly what the case was since making it hardtail required a bit of conversion, from the shop:

the tail piece has been replaced and made into a hard tail.

Can you coil-tap a single-coil? Obviously you can't split it, but I don't know what the difference is.

Coil Split is when you ground the connection between two coils in a humbucker so that only 1 coil is running like a single coil. Coil Tap is where you have a wire that goes to say 50-75% of the coil winding so that you tapping it off early in the winding. This results in a lower DC resistance and you can coil tap a single coil pickup like a strat, tele or p90 pup.

Thats intersting and makes sense...so guitar manufacturers have just misuse the term...Im sure ive see "coil tap" as the general term to explain a humbucker becoming a sinle coil

Yeah it sounds really interesting. I never knew you could do that. I always have the volume turned down on my neck so i can switch over for gainy clean tones with out switching off pedals...so never would approach a 1 pickup guitar.

Darren that's a nice looking chunk o' wood. Kramer necks pop up on ebay every so often. You could go that route. An egc neck on that would be the secks though!

I love the eminence Delta series speakers, but I do agree, great response and low end, and a very unique representation of the low end at that...they definitely need some conventional speakers to balance the low end. Ive been using a 4x12 of Delta Pro 12a for awhile now, and although it sounds great, I have come to the conclusion that those speakers would sound even better crossed with something like V-30s or Classic Leads or their higher watt Warehouse cousins the Liberator and British leads...been on my mind for some time...been toying with the idea of a 6x12 with 2xDelta Pro 12a in the bottom two, then the top 4 and X pattern of the Liberator and British leads and run that with a 4x12 of 2xDelta Pro and 2xLiberator in an X pattern. This way they will both get a pretty full range tone, but if the venue has limited stage space or for some reason I can only use one cab for the night I can just fire up the 6x12 and still get the same overrall tone with the 4x12.

I ran a 4x12 with WGS ET65's and a 2x12 with DeltaPRO12A's stack for a long time, and I must say its an amazing combo. You nailed it dead on that they need a more conventional speaker to pair with, but their low end is huge tight and responsive. I'm now using a 2x15 with Delta 15LFC's in place of the DP12A 2x12 and have even more low end, totally loving it.

im still contemplating which 15 i would like. Im going to leave the Deltas off the board for now.

You should have two of those in your possession to try out. I have a feeling you will probably end up preferring the Big Bens knowing your style and general tonal goals.

DUDE!!!! Now your talking my game!!! If you got any questions on building the TM I can help you with just about anything. As far as bridge pickups there's numerous different "esquire" or "nocaster / broadcaster" pickups which are designed to be coil tapped single coil bridge pickups for bridge p/u only tele's. I can highly recommend the GFS neovins, completely dead quiet and they sound amazing through high gain drit pedals.Also I forgot to post a pic of the updates I did to my Dirge Telemaster:



I took out the SD phat cat and 250k vol pot with treble mod and replaced it with a GFS "Vintage Split" (WRHB copy) and Gibson 500k Vol / Tone pots with an orange .047 cap. It sounds amazing now and sounds really close to my Tele Custom with a WRHB neck p/u. Also not pictured is I replaced the middle bridge saddle with a steel non-compensated because it actually gets me dead on intonation while the compensated one tends to run the G string flat (I've done this to both my TM's). I still need to get the big headstock maple fretboard with block inlays neck fixed, I never could get the frets to settle flat I just need to find a trust worthy local luthier.

Guess I could try to offload this legend and try to acquire another BigBen. Id rather not speaker mix the 2x15s. I will also probably hold off on them for now tho.
