Gear dilemma of the day
Recently I went to a local shop with my memory boy to see the trade value.
As the owner was carrying to his office (my mistake for letting him)
I watched him drop it on the tile floor.
He then gave me a ridiculous lowball offer on it so I brought it home
Just plugged it in today and it does not work.
It's been about 2 weeks or more since I brought it in and I am the only one who saw it.
Obviously he knows he dropped it,
I should have tried it right there in the shop.
What would you do?
To me it isn't about the pedal as much as it is about the dishonesty of it.
I like his shop always get good deals there on pedals, and I know going in that his trade values are actually way lower than guitar centers.
I feel like I should go in, but it's my word against his.
Again: What would you do?

Wow, this's a tough one, hbomb.
I'd go talk to the owner about it ASAP. Explain to him the situation. His answer will determine your next course of action.
If you have a good relationship with the shop, his answer should be obvious for the sake of good customer service. Since he lowballed you, I'm already not getting a good feeling as to the outcome of this one. Either way you don't really win. What do you expect him to do? Make good on his lowball offer even though the pedal now doesn't work? Offer a replacement? What do you really want out of it? An apology? What? What would you expect?
Did he try it out before he dropped it? That would kinda strengthen your case a little. Good luck.

Drop it in a bag full of dog shit, light it on fire and throw it through the front window.

Tricky.
The time elapsed doesn't help at all.
I agree with heading there ASAP and seeing what happens. You're in no wrong.

If it doesn't get resolved with the shop, send it to me and I could probly fix it for you.

I may just do this,
I haven't opened it up yet so I am hoping it is something simple and obvious, loose wire
it works in bypass mode (SUPRISE) but when you turn it on nothing happens, the blend knob works because you can blend from completely dry to no sound so depending on where the blend knob is in the circuit it is not simple
I know EHX will be no help
He did not try it out before or after
just gave me an offer
I hate to complain about the lowball offer because his used prices are great
$100 time bender
I still will go buy stuff
honestly I care very little about the money, kindof just want him to acknowledge he jammed me, but I can't prove anything
Odds are I will just let it go
People have done much worse things to me, so I can't get too upset

Well, that's kindof a good thing that the blend works, because I'm sure it has a buffered dry signal with the blend so it's probably getting power and mostly working.. Could be that an IC just needs to be reseated in its socket, could be completely effed

Good opportunity to see how the customer service is. Chank summed it up pretty well--if the guy steps up and tries to do SOMETHING to make up for it, that speaks volumes. If you get the block and deflect/denial routine, you probably should find a new place to shop...I would be as honest as possible, yeah it's been a little while, and yeah maybe you should've checked it out earlier, but it is what it is. Treat him with respect and see if he returns the treatment...and if not, I would be very clear about how his actions and carelessness cost him a customer.
Special low-frequency version.

Customer service? define it again for me cause hbomb seems to be doing the shop owners duty......being a business if they drop the pedal they should offer to fix it up straight away and they need to make the customer happy, not the other way round.
Granted its not easy for business but something like that should of been dealt with straight away, because he didnt really address the whole scenario in the shop at all, thats pretty weaksauce. Hes lucky your not an over the top bloke who yells over trivual things like 2/3 of the customers in our PC shop. Any mistakes we make we fix up, and any customer mistakes me omit to make them happy basically

Re: Gear dilemma of the day
This is my take too, by taking the pedal throwing a value on it, never testing it and letting me leave the shop they already kindof suck.
I know I have been out of the corporate world for about a year now, but when we dropped parts at the factory they had to go all the way back through QC before they were ever shipped.
I should have just stayed there till it got addressed. But they should have been bending over backwards to make it right.

What Chank said. Oooff this is a sucky situation, not matter how you look at it.
If he has any sort of integrity, he'll work something out with you. If he tells you to fuck off, go with MEC's plan.

I like the dog poo idea, but I am not sure how long I will have to follow a dog around for to fill the bag.

Follow a dog around?
Just lock a dog in an inhumanely small crate until it poops.
(I promise not to report you to the SPCA. What's your address, btw?)
