I've cut down on my food intake, started working out, and unless my scales are fucked up (which I think they are), I've GAINED weight.

Congrats dude!!!!! I've lost about 15 from stress, poor diet, and lack of sleep in the last 2 months.

So why are boxers so commonly light? 12 stone is where I want to be, yet I'm currently almost at the same weight as a heavyweight boxer, with nowhere near the physique they have.

When I went to college almost 5 years ago I dropped 25-30 pounds. Now 10 months after graduating, I gained it all back and then some

Because height is deceiving on TV. Welter weights are usually under 5'6" and the heavyweights are usually around 6', Mike Tyson was only 5'10" 220lbs in his prime. Plus they do ridiculous cardio to keep their body fat down as low as possible.

How much do you weigh now? And how tall are you?

One thing is that an average human works out nowhere near the intensity of a world class athlete. They burn fat/calories like it's no one's business. They're just gifted when it comes to build and natural athleticism. While you're putting on muscle you also retain fat and water weight to some degree which can change your body shape/definition. And as Ancient said, Mike Tyson is a prime example of someone who isn't as tall as you think he is.

Another thing: boxers and wrestlers also MUST maintain a specific weight while at top physical condition and often do so at the sacrifice of proper dieting and hydration around the time of their weigh-ins. That's why you see these guys who are ridiculously defined leading into fights.

Water weight is pretty big...a couple of guys at work had a bet for losing weight in the space a month...one guy ate well went to the gym and the other guy didnt get hos act together...but then a few days before the weigh in, the lazy guy massively resuced his liquid intake and actually ended loaing more weight and won the bet!...which is basically what boxers do when they go running in those foil suits days before weigh-ins.

No offense to any former or current wrestlers reading this but I have serious problems with weight loss techniques that I've seen firsthand and heard about in the high school and college wrestlers I've worked with. Days or weeks of disordered eating and fluid deprivation, for what? The chance to get your ass kicked because you haven't eaten or drank anything proper in several days? WORTH IT.
