Because I am a huge fan of synths/electro garbage, I watched The Taint because of what you said. Super fun movie. Awesome soundtrack, too.

Always loved the synth stuff in Apocalyse Now!
Also in the opening driving scene in The Shining there is some awesome synth stuff.

You'll dig it. The soundtrack and visuals are crackin'. It made me laugh that the only extra bonus features on the DVD is just a melting head.

The synth stuff in Apocalypse Now was composed by Coppola's father, but originally was going to be scored by Japanese synth legend Isao Tomita.

All of the music in The Shining is pretty awesome. The original stuff (two cues total, one being the driving sequence) was done by Wendy Carlos. The main theme opens with a quote from Dies Irae before going into all of those horrifying sounds. The rest of the score is some of the most intense 21st century classical you can come by. Penderecki, Ligeti, Bartok, etc. The Shining is definitely enhanced by volume :!!!:

Valhalla Rising.
The drone/soundscape creates incredible atmosphere, perfect for what the movie is trying to achieve. Not sure the rest of the movie is as successful...

Hey! I just watched that movie on accident, and I agree about the soundtrack. Impressed me very much. And I actually dug the movie as a whole quite a bit. Just really quiet, and kinda visceral.

Also, here's a pretty cool interview with Johnny Jewel (Glass Candy/Chromatics, Chromatics IS MY JAM) talking about movies and music and working with that director (Nicolas Winding Refn) on Drive.

EDIT: lulz, I forgot to post the dang link: http://www.boxoffice.com/articles/2011- ... -for-drive

Oh! Also I've been on a Ryan Gosling kick, and Half Nelson has an awesome soundtrack. Lotsa Broken Social Scene:

Great music to play while buying crack from a little kid.
