2N2222, PN2222, 2N3904 are all NPN silicon transistors. I think I tried other transistors for the NAZO a long time ago but it did not go well. maybe I should have changed resistor values to bias the 3904 but anyway, I never did actually test that and I don't think it will work as good or at all. I hate radioshack but you can still walk in and buy 2N2222 in a package marked "assorted NPN transistors"

How hard would it be to take a six position switch like this (a missorder one I got as a replacement for my BYOC Mouse):

there are 9 of them in a box. 9 crazy ass pedals. you could wire it point to point on the switch and mount it on a license plate nailed to a tree stump.
