The particle does the freeze thing on any setting where it repeats the last note which was over wherever the threshold is set, on the delay modes it does just what you describe.

But if you set the Threshold too high it won't change the note, it will just drone the first note you played. Which is cool too, but not what MEC is looking for.

That sounds pretty cool and would be a much better value than the T-Rex I posted.

Does anyone know if something like this would be possible on the regular TC Flashback using the new Toneprint editor?

Yeah, it can be tricky to set the threshold just right (no wonder they recommend a compressor in the manual!) but when you do set it well with a compressed sound going in/being careful with dynamics (I use fuzz!) it works nicely.

A delay with ducking might be a bit better depending on what you're after, because the repeats on the Particle aren't perfect, it does screw with the sound and do weird stuff. I like that, but if you want clean repeats I wouldn't recommend it.

If you put them in a splitter/loop, you'll probably achieve the exact sound you want - the Hummingbird has a volume control, so if you made it a little quieter than your "clean" sound, and the HB would chop the drones auto-latched from the SE, it would sound just about exactly like what I imagine you're describing...

Does the Superego automatically hold your last note? Is that what you mean by auto-hold? Would I have to stomp each time I changed notes?

The rotary setting on the RRR does almost exactly what I'm looking to do but to get the "rotations" loud enough
I have to set the mix to the point of washing out my dry signal.

Maybe the RRR or the tremolo with a splitter/blender would be the way to go.

I just don't want to buy a bunch of stuff and then find out it won't work.

Yeah, the SuperEgo has some sort of intensity trigger where if you hit a note a bit harder than others, it will automatically latch on to that. Behndy showed it to me in action - he said that there's a little bit of a learning curve in getting the hits right, but nothing too bad.

Also, instead of a ducking, you could try an expression pedal that would control the repeats and move it as you like. But thats a little more hands on (foot on) while you're playing

When they release the editor I'll be all over it... The Freeze does it in non latching mode but it's only milliseconds of the source signal...

I love how convoluted we always get... TO THE EXTREME... Anyway I was in the shower thinking about pedals as usual and realized that the EL CAP is what you need... You can use an expression pedal to control any parameter so if you use it to control the feedback and set the El Cap for clean repeats you can heel down play what you want then toe up and it'll repeat till you heel down and play again...

So I think any of the M#-series will do this using the Dynamic Delay model. You set the threshold pretty low, ducking and mix to taste. You kind of have to fiddle with the feedback knob to get it in the right spot depending on how you want the repeats, as they do fade some. In terms of time between repeats, there's basically endless possibilities since you can set them either by millisecond or by using tap. The M series has basically every tap divide option you can think of, so it shouldn't be a problem.

Let me know if you want a clip...
