possible to combine parts of different filters?

Post by dubkitty »

as i've been narrowing my search for the ideal filter pedal, i'm finding that i like some features in different pedals. is it in any way practical to graft parts of different boxes together, e.g. the Prometheus DLX's step-filter functions with the lovely 4-pole filter from the Iron Ether Xerograph? i'm just curious as to whether this is even possible?

I think you've got to get the AC (guitar signal) voltage right and the DC voltage right when going from one bit of circuit to another... The second circuit might want things in a particular way, so you have to make sure the first part provides it...

the electrix line is pretty bomb. but i've heard the filters are pretty weak and thin. (just what i heard, never tried them myself).

i do have the akai mfc42, which is similar to the electrix filter unit and it is FAT AS PHUK.

Seriously though, dubkitty, instead of cobbling together stompboxes, you should look into synth modules. It might be easier and less costly in the long run.

No not really. Pretty sure the xen is digital while the subdecay is analog with digital control. Basically what you want is the Prometheus but with a higher order filter?

My guess is the Prometheus will probably be a basic vactrol based filter, It would be pretty difficult to mod it for higher order filters. To get higher order filters and do it analog it gets more complicated because you have to cascade the filter for more poles.

just remember, its not the size of the pole that matters, its how you use it.
