today i had one of the worst days of my life. being entirely broke, i went out to try and sell my blood at a plasma center in the 6ºF/-10ºC weather. in order to do this i had first to spend an hour at a Social Security office getting a new card, which they required at the blood bank, once i got to the blood center they turned me down, claiming that my veins were too small. when i left and tried to go home, my truck wouldn't start. i called AAA for roadside assistance; two separate responders later, the best they could do was tow me to a nearby mechanic because my coverage wouldn't pay for them to bring the truck all the way home. this left me about ten miles from home with total assets (bank, credit, cash) of $2.30. the only way i got home was that two separate bus drivers let me ride for free, and the second gave me a free transfer to get the third bus i had to take, which left me a mile and a half from home. by now it was probably about 2ºF, and the wind was blowing...i had to periodically hold one of my mittened hands against my face to keep it from freezing. having left the house at 9:30AM, i finally made it back at 7:30PM. i'm feeling utterly defeated by life, and am tring to figure out what to do. i have no funds to do anything else, but i'm coming to recall all the reasons i despised Chicago when i grew up here. it's fortunate--or perhaps not--that i have no firearms or hard drugs. i want to just lie down and fucking die. i don't seem to be useful for anything in this world, and the older i get the more everything hurts. please forgive me for dumping, but i'm utterly brokenhearted right now and have no idea what i can or should do next.

i've resorted to two fingers of gin with a bit of triple sec and sweet and sour mix on the rocks. i feel almost cultured. but it's so unlike me to drink for comfort...i'm afraid that my family's alcoholic tendencies will catch up to me. when i was living by myself i kept a bottle of vodka in the freezer until i started drinking at 10AM. then it was time to stop.
