lol. i honestly haven't heard either of those.

i just never listened to rokk or really anything until like 8th grade. my parents bumped Hank Williams Jr and Joni Mitchel and Kingston Trio and Weather Report. first time i saw Jaquo play was a video of him on tour with Joni Mitchel. but i was never really into music until i found speed metal and Aphex Twin and Squarepusher.

Jaco played with Joni Mitchell.

Jaquo plays with the grammatic emotions of TB on a semi-regular basis.

TB dude is a good dude to my estimation too. I don't post thar no more, so I can't say what it looks like now.

As far as I can tell, Jaco was the first electric bassist to "get taken seriously by serious musicians."

TB Jacquo is the guy who appears to have an endorsement deal for every item of gear ever released. He probably has breakfast most mornings eating Jacquo endorsed cornflakes. That said, and with every reason for me to be jealous, he seems like a good guy. I base this on the fact he is pretty helpful and respectful to people on there from what I've seen.

It must be an awkward balance for guys who are that good as actual players on forums. There are so many forum only geniuses on TB, it's sometimes hard to tell the players from the scenesters.

Ha ha. It's true.

Growing up, a friend's dad was a Jazz bassist. His day job was as a High School music teacher. One day he and one of his fellow bassist teacher buddies went to go hear an electric bassist that they'd heard was supposed to be really amazing. Band starts playing and his buddy gets up and walks out. The bassist wasn't playing with proper upright technique.

He was using a pick.

lol. yah. with JACO too, mad skills, not my thing.

yahp. i asked him some questions about endorsements, he asked for my number and we talked for an hour or two. he not only gave me a lot of helpful advice but also the contact information for artist reps at a couple companies.

it didn't pan out, but that was on me for being in a band that wasn't doing shit.

i like him. little hard, really nice guy.

Jaco (as in the bassists panty dampener who is no longer with us) was obviously an amazing musician. Weirdly, I'd played bass for years before I really listened to him.

I'm a bit lost with jazz in general. I get the chops and creativity bits but I often find it a bit too noodly and self-indulgent. It's ok to play music for musicians but there's pretty big risks of things turning into a circle jerk. Even famous jazz stuff I've heard sometimes sounds like a player determined to demonstrate a scale or technique. I tend to think - "Wow - you must have practiced that for weeks....I wonder if there's an actual band with actual songs on next...."

Please remember that I am only a mere convict culture evolved antipodean when you read this. I like a bit of dumb and honest in my music. Not Nicklecrack dumb but some transferable and understandable communication is useful in music to me. Jazz fuckers appear to be seeing if people "get it" at times. I'd be the annoying guy telling them I don't and that I will only try if the melodic content is engaging enough for me to bother.
