Sorry to bump old thread... searching around for stuff on Boss fuzz and this came up...

I used this board yesterday, and I gotta say both the FZ-2 and FZ-3 both sounded really good! They're very different beasts, and compliment each other well.

If you love fuzz, well worth checking out!

Ffffff I really want an hm-2 again to stack after my fz2. I've been getting great results with my death metal, but I think the hm-2 would sound killer.

Thanks!

I have other Boss pedals that I swap in and out. Here's another version:

The FZ-2 destroys my world. It is so sickeningly evil. So delightfully disgusting.
Fuzz, reverb, delay.

Jesus. I keep wanting to assemble a discontinued Boss board like that.
Off topic, but has anyone played a Boss PW-2? Somewhere I heard it was the worst selling Boss pedal and I want it for that reason...the demos I've heard sound...OK

Jeff Buckley used one. You can hear it throughout his live recordings.

Hmm. Is that the fuzz sound on Vancouver on "Sketches . . ."? That would make some sense.

Do it! I had wanted to make the Boss board for quite sometime before I finally got around to it. It turned out even better than I imagined!

Yep, I have a PW-2. Like you, just had to have one since they get a lot of slack. The other one that gets ragged on is the XT-2. Both kinda flopped because instead of standard controls they're labelled with words like "Fat", "Muscle", and "Punch". One great thing is that it's still easy to get them on the cheap, so easy to give 'em a go if you want.

Some say the PW-2 is the Boss Muff, and I can kinda see where they're coming from; has a thick sorta Russian Muff sound. There are some good tones to be dialed in for sure. One bad thing is no real cleanup on the guitar's volume.

The XT-2 is a lot of fun. Not really like anything else; has a REALLY boosted EQ that starts doing weird stuff when cranked. Pushing the "Punch" up all the way makes my open 4th string do this weird harmonic/cocked wah thing that makes it sound like my guitar is blowing up. A really cool pedal if you want to dial in some new, unique tones!

I'm always changing my Boss-board, sometimes for need, sometimes for fun. Both the PW-2 and XT-2 are in regular rotation!

Ha!

I've got that book! I lost the cd with all the samples, though. :(

I should have never got rid of my FZ-2. I sold it like 4 years ago on GuitarGeek when they were going for super cheap. I see them going for $100-$130 now. FML

After seeing that book mentioned time and time again over the past few years, I picked it up on ebay a few months back (in completely mint condition, no less!). It's really well put together, and a great resource if you're interested in older Boss stuff.
