Bleh on guitars. Not my thing, looks cool though.
What kind of Warwick do you have dude? Is that a Thumb? I fucking miss my Wick soooooooooooooo much already. Seriously considering already flipping my Coda for one. HAHAHAHA. I don't know if I can do a Jazz style bass. It just doesn't seem natural to me.
Has that ever happened to you guys? You think something going to feel right and it just doesn't. The necks different than I'm used to.
So far the most comfortable basses I've played have been
Stingrays
Reflex
Warwick
Jackson
Those all have very comfortable necks and great weight distribution as well.

I try to play guitar a lot to help round me out as a bassist. Since my band is trying more and more to compose and arrange these days,....I feel like I may be more useful by contributing guitar parts than just bass parts.
I play a Thumb Bolt On 5 string. I've owned it since 2000 and for while I wanted something different. Just was something missing. Sourcing strings was a pain in the ass, so much so I subscribed to the older and deader the string the better.
Instead of trading it or selling it or otherwise flipping it,...I just slapped some Circle K Strings (.158 "B" String,...I'm tuned down a whole step standard) and HOLY SHIT,...Dat tone I've been searching for for 12 years was right there all along. Renewed in my love for the bass. Sounds so good,...I'm thinking I'm going to pick up a lifetime supply of those strings so I can change them regularly.
I can adapt,...but I do have a cheap short scale Rogue Violin bass that I bought off a friend,...more as a favor than anything,...that I just have a hard time playing. Something is off. I've had short scales in the past that were fine. I think the string spacing is what is throwing me more than anything else. The Thumb is so tight,...where as the violin bass,...not so much.
I love Jazz Basses. P Basses too.

Re: Cat fights and robots on pg 740 (TB Mega Thread)
I don't think the CKS are more amazing than any other set of fresh strings, but with Warwick's tailpiece/bridge design and the tunings and string gauges I prefer; I needed tapercores. I had a really hard time finding tapercores in a substantial enough gauge to accommodate drop tuning so I just settled. DR makes a Longscale tapercore but the wraps at the tuning peg end where ever so wonky as to throw my OCD into a fit of rage. I had .130 Warwick Black Labels on that sufficed but those were about 5 years old and were tossed on when I was in a more straightforward jamband in standard tuning. The result of not changing strings in about 5 years is that I was trying to EQ my way out of muddiness and lifelessness.
It's worth noting that CKS also works with something he is calling "Balanced Tension" which gives the strings a more even feel across the board. The B string is just as tight as the G string.
Circle K's just work on this bass. They are tapercores and substantial enough of a gauge to accommodate tuning down to A. They are the proper length so as to fit properly at the tuning peg end. I'm getting a nice articulate top end with lots of punch and growl. Just shimmering and modern. My guitarist just picked up an American Tele Deluxe and the tonal ranges are so complimentary that the band is just more inspired.
I definitely appreciate old dead strings on a P-Bass or like an EB-3 or something like that,...but the Warwick really shines with the CKstrings

I was skeptical, but gave them a shot. I now have circle Ks on every bass I own, and I'm not going back to anything else. The thing I really dig about circle K is that they don't charge you any more for custom sets than they do for standard sets. That's awesome for someone like me who spends a shit load of time in non-standard tunings (mostly CGCG and ADADA)

So I wasn't able to use the Ric in the gig last night. I thought I gave the Ric a good lookover at home, but apparently I missed that the screw holding the machine head into the tuning post for the A string had backed out, and when I was tuning the Ric up before the gig last night, I heard a "P'TINK!!" and my A string goes flying, and the screw flies in another direction. We were literally just about to start playing, so I didn't have time to crawl on the floor to find the screw. So I played the whole gig with my G&L. Luckily I found the screw as we were cleaning up after the gig, so all is well. I'll just have to debut it at our next gig in 2 weeks. Oh well.
