In High School....I had hair past my shoulders. It was shaved underneath and I would dye it a different color every other week....then we got a new soccer coach who made all the long haired guys cut their hair. Motherfucker.

So I had long ass spikes that I would dye every color under the sun.

But yeah, had I not chopped it all off back then, I'd have had to do it sooner or later. Just can't climb the ladder far enough with long hair, piercings, or tats. I'm not knocking those things, I wish it didn't matter. But it does.

So I was just jammin' out in my basement...god that gets old. Anyway I was fucking around with all my effects pedals and realized I'm just so damn bored with them all. I just got a bunch of new, fun stuff to play with and I literally do not care. Hah.

I think I'm coming to the realization that effects for me personally have not improved my playing ability. In fact I think they have slowed me down. That's me personally.

Now where do I go. I could do with a fuzz and an OD and that's it. I...I'm thinking about flipping everything again. I mean the whole thing.

Help me. Help me!

Maybe the problem isn't the effects, it's the jammin' out alone. That can get boring for anyone real quick! Are there people around that you could play with?

Failing that... send me your pedals for safekeeping until the urge to flip passes. I promise to keep them safe and well fed!

The way you burn through EVERYTHING including your amps and basses means you have a deeper underlying problem. Not that it isn't entertaining as hell to us.

You need to stop jamming by yourself. It mostly ends in doing similar things over and over again. Start working on songs instead. You have Maschine, so fix yourself some basic patterns and get cracking. They can (and likely will) be total shit, but that doesn't matter. It'll help you do different things and figure out what works and doesn't work. Both in terms of your playing as well as the effects you're using.

I've had long hair for the last 10 years or so. Cut it off 8 years ago, regretted it straight away and grew it out again. Long hair and a career can work where I am - it's very VERY unusual, so yeah. I dress impeccably at work to even things out and am careful to keep my hair well looked after - if you've got short hair you can get away with a fair bit appearance wise, but long hair... not worth the risk.

Yep, what the others said: You, Sir, need a band. A band that actually keeps You busy and interested. One that will not tolerate band members skipping rehearsals or coming to practice without having practiced Your parts.

Yeah, well it depends a lot on the school. Some are cool and some are not quite as cool. The students, their parents, and the staff that make the ...social standing and the supposed status what it is. It starts with a group of individuals and nobody in particular, though everybody is responsible for how it is established.

I've worked for University library ten years now. And have been going to staff education at the Helsinki Business University. And the Lemmy sans stache in a suit -look works, always. No matter if meeting with Library administration the University deans and the rector, or research funding suits, or people who live with illusion about belonging to better social class.

Fuck all that. We're all born butt-naked and screaming. I'm my own social class, like everybody is, and people who fail to respect that can be told to mind their manners, no matter who they think they are.

Damn it. I know you guys are right. I just do get bored. I need to put out an add or something on Craigslist. I've been trying to get together with several people and nothing seems to ever materialize. People talk, but then when it comes down to actually setting up time to play together, they make excuses. So fucking annoying.

Part of it is I'm self concience too. I've been playing a long ass time, but don't know how to read music and don't have any formal training. Everything I've learned on bass, I taught myself. Years of painstacking playing, so that I could get a better sound. Yet there is still so much to learn. I would feel like an elephant in a china shop if I met up with some dudes that were way more talented than myself and started jamming.

One guy, my cousin, told me yesterday that basically I wasn't good enough to play with him. I told him to fuck off and I've been playing for 14 years and am not as stupid as he thinks I am. The problem with jamming with him is he doesn't want to jam. He wants us both to know the entire song before we meet up. That's not that big a deal if it's a song I dig, but it's not. It's fucking country music and I fucking HATE country music.

So out of the people I know that will jam I'm left with a few decisions. A guy that wants to be a rapper, actually two of those, my bro who is a genius with music programs but is always inconsistant with being available, my cousin who only likes playing fucking shit like Keith Urban or a dude at my work that likes semi similar music but has not been able to actually meet up with me. Fuckin A!

OR! I put an add out on Craigslist and see what happens. I need to get out there more. Also I'm seriously considering taking some lessons. I've talked about it before, but now I'm actually going to start looking for a decent teacher. Someone who will teach me all the techinal shit I don't understand.

OH and I had a dude that wants my Stingray HARD. He offered me a Mike Lull bass but I'd have to come up with almost 2k to make the deal even. LOL! or a American Vintage 62 P (newer one) plus 700 bucks cash. I'm seriously considering the P. I love the Ray, but the Warwick handles all my of my active bass needs, plus then I could buy a Timeline and some other shit. hahahahha. God I'm so nutso. I flip flop so much it's annoying.

Do it. It's sketchy, the people usually suck, and you don't really know what you're getting into. But that's half of the fun of those people. A guy I play with occasionally contacted me through a CL ad and he ended up being five times the guitarist I am (and a classical guitar major).
Just put it out there and if it feels flaky, stop emailing them.
