Help me make the Creepy Fingers Pink Elephant sustain longer

Looked at a few clips of those pedals you mentioned and I'm not feeling any of them.


Maybe fuzz in general just isn't for me. It seems like fuzz is more suited for more "messier" sounds and that is like trying to fit a square peg in a round hole for what I would want to do.

That said more typical distortion isn't what I'm looking for either.

I am trying to get a kind of aggressive but extremely tight and dense sound. Something that roars but maintains the tonal characteristics of the clean sound.

The single notes should be cutting and thick, and it needs to be very good with chords in that you can hear each note play and not a mess of gain.

Something like a cranked overdrive but with more smoothness and "balls" if you will. Preferably something that responds well to picking dynamics (gets thicker but not necessarily louder when you dig in and shimmers like a clean tone when you play light).

I've had good success stacking gain devices. Like two boosts and a fuzz; a boost, a fuzz and an overdrive; a boost and two fuzzes; etc.

Experiment. Try playing as many combinations as you can. Try many different settings.

Stacked fuzzes with the fuzz control rolled down sometimes achieves results similar to what you're looking for.

Are there any good transparent octave pedals?

Well, usually for octave up I use a Green Ringer clone. Not transparent at all.

IDK? I'd look into a Prescription Electronics COB (Clean Octave Blend) or a Freakshow Effects Maharishi. Also Kevin from Henretta Eng. (who's on here) just came out with a neat sounding cute purple octave pedal (that Mudfuzz made a demo of).

I'd try the Smallsound Super Puzzle. That thing is a box full of different sounds.

Or look at something like a MKII or MKIII tonebender. Also, Stupiddream88 makes that hot new Buzzaround that I'm sure is smooth tight and aggressive.

I suppose it is just the nature of some people making test clips to dial in as much noise as possible.

Not really, it kinda varies according to which guitar and amp is being used and stuff like that. Too many variables to start giving out tone recipes.

That being said, as far as boosts I've been liking Black Arts Toneworks Black Forest, Stone Deaf PDF-1 and Wren & Cuff Phat Phuk a lot lately.

Take Flight Pedals The Goose, Fairfield Circuitry Four Eyes or any other fuzz with a crossover are also helpful. Too many other fuzzes to name.

Try and find a fuzz that you like the sound of that cleans up well. Stacking can be kind of difficult. I usually don't stack with a specific sound in mind, I just stack to get sounds that are unavailable with a single gain device and am often surprised at the results. Stacking can achieve a more multi-dimensional overall sound.

Check B.A.T. Pharaoh or that new Ritual or the L.S.T.R... You probably have to try a lot before you figure out what works... And that's the fun part...

I actually tried the LSTR, I found it had some good tones but a didn't have that clean "kick to the balls" I look for in a dirty tone.

One fuzz I did like was the IdiotBox Blasteroid Fuzz, but it was quite gated and the lovely harmonic oscillation that goes on in the background of the pedal or whatever you call it only served to get on my nerves.

Oh wow, that Black forest seems to meld Fuzz and Overdrive tones together in just the right way, I love it. Maybe I can then boost it with something like a Lovepedal Amp 50 to really make it scream bloody murder.

Word, on the cheap ass side I've found that the BBE AM64 sounds sick boosting any of my 'spensive Fuzz... Certain things work well together and others just fight...

If you need a huge boost check the Ohnoho Blowing UP...

Something in the treble booster/Rangemaster world would probably work for you there.

Some other pedals you might want to check out are the Dr. Scientist Elements and Frazz Dazzler. The former is a low-to-high gain OD that is super versatile, and has a clean blend, and the latter is a pretty cool fuzz with a clean blend that sounds like it might fit the bill for you.

No, probably not. If anything, it'll probably just make the octave more pronounced.

Have you ever tried out a Doomidrive? Too me it sounds like the criteria you've listed... great od/dist that isn't afraid to slap you in the face with its balls. Fuzzy, but not quite a fuzz. Nice and thick, but still has some clarity. Worth checking out if you haven't already.
