I admit I've just ignored them because it seems like a TGP flavor of the month thing to me

They've been around awhile... I just think ILF goes for a lil more affordable price range in general... We're spoiled by all our Super Human Pedal Building Bros...

Re: Spaceman Effects?
I think it's nice gear that TGP has gone BJFE over, and folks are just flipping and being complete tools about it.
and now the at cost price is going up since he can pull it off with that kind of nonsense going on.
a real shame for folks who dig it, but can't coin it that to that realm.........lets make all pedals 400.00...........fucking lame.

They really cost $400? For a fuzz that's pretty insane.
I mean the guts look incredibly nice, but so do the guts of my ss/bs and stuff..

I think I saw one Gemini at $500 on ebay actually. I think if any shitty, current Boss distortion pedal was in a pretty enclosure and was 'limited edition' people would be all over it.

Re: Spaceman Effects?
There's a dude on TGP selling a Gemini for $500, Aphelion for $500, and Spacerocket for $700.
I had an Aphelion and sold it for like $215 months before this hype shit, and actually had and returned a Spacerocket because I didn't like it. Stupid me?

Good deals on ILF: too many to list, just ask!

Yeah, until they open it up & play it side by side a Boss distortion. No competition.
Check freestompboxes.org - they've traced Spaceman FX = http://freestompboxes.org/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=12799&hilit=gemini
I imagine many ILF'ers here eventually do at some stage in their lives earn a little more than what is necessary to eat to survive (noodles in my own experience) and if its out of your price range, so what, get something else or build your own. Dissing without listening or playing in person though because of the hype of what other people have said, seriously? Now that is what I expect from TGP

great trades with: Lintybits, smallsnd/bigsnd, bennybanana, julius_deane, bass_econo, rustywire, jbf3, Dandolin, goroth, devnulljp, Helter, Justinm1789, Inconuucl, NDominy, Uncle Grandfather

I've listened to some Spaceman fuzzes and they just sound meh to me, they just look good. I'll take a Boss FZ-2 over any of those any day, certainly they aren't exactly comparable but that's just my fuzz preference.
And where did you get the assumption it's out of my price range? Just because I can afford it doesn't mean it's worth it to buy one or smart financially

Re: Spaceman Effects?
I've been a fan and user of Spaceman Effects from the first pedal on.
While I don't understand the sudden craze I never doubted that Zak's patience, quality and marketing would eventually pay off.
No pedal is for everyone or every gear and Spaceman pedals are no exception. But each one has something unique about it.
The Rumble Fuzz is not only a fuzz with balls but can also act as a very good low gain overdrive. I personally love its great string separation and the fact that it doesn't suck away your bass.
The Mercury III is a very versatile boost. The few demos don't do it any justice. But it also works as an always on sound enhancer on certain amp. A good friend of mine owns a nice vintage Deluxe Reverb that's even sounding more glorious with the Mercury engaged.
I was not interested in the Space Rocket but won one surprisingly when Zak ebayed one as a Fukushima charitable donation. I loved how it thickened up the lead sound of my Shiva.
The Gemini is a good fuzz but could be much more extreme in its settings. The idea of blending and mixing transistors is interesting but I found the differences rather subtle.
The Aphelion is a very touch sensitive and gives my Deliverance an entirely different voice.
I would not encourage anyone to pay more then Zak asks for his pedals but if you've got a chance to play one, do yourself a favor and try them out.
