Significant others and gear

I figured this might be an interesting thread to share stories about the ones you love and gear. Could be about gear a significant other has purchased, stories about your loved one and your gear buying, etc!

My story:
I know I mention my wife alot on here, she's a great gal. We started dating in highschool 7 years ago (I'm young haha), got engaged about a year and a half ago. We aren't officially 'married' yet, but we've been together so long that we concider ourselves married yadayada. We don't live together yet, but we work together and see each other every day etc etc.

She's been extremely supportive of my musical endaevors, and somewhat supportive of my gear buying (until recently when it got bad), and has even started playing shows with me! She said she really enjoys it.

Through the years she's surprised me with different pedals which as been really cool and generous of her

Here is my actual post for today:

So as many of you know, I bought a Kramer 450g guitar, it was subpar for how much I spent on it, and I shipped it back. We've been working on a budget on controlling our spending so that we can save to move in together by September and officially married by April of next year. She got kind of upset when I told her how much the guitar cost, but when I told her I was shipping it back, she got excited. I worked out a budget for the money, to get tags for my car, put money into savings, put money into our account, and buy her an early birthday present. We're going to be doing a 30 mile benefit bike ride in October and she doesn't have a bike yet, so I'll be buying her a nice little bike to train with me! Anyways, she knew how disappointed I was when I had to ship the Kramer back and she told me to get myself something nice with part of the money. It felt nice to get that support! I'm going to buy a cheapie tele.

There was this chick that I was in mad love with... got her a guitar as a birthday present. It was one of those Squiers that are supposed to be nicer than others? Idk shit about that... anyways, she was happy as shit and yada yada she dumped me.

Several years ago (~5) i was browsing through ebay and found a used golden divided by 13 JRT 9/13 with matching 1x12" cab. I showed her the auction and said, that is the best looking amp i've ever seen. She agreed and offered me, that she would loan me the money so i could get it. I was speechless. Some days later i ordered exact that amp with matching cab at music zoo with european mains (230V).
I paid her the money back over the following year. Still my favorite amp that will never leave.

She like s my 335 (says it looks like a nice piece of furniture ) Doesn't understand the teles and gives me grief over pedals (they all sound the same ).

My wife tolerates my gear whoring, but I can't say that she really encourages it or understands it. However, she likes that I'm in bands and loves to see me play gigs, so she basically just takes the mentality of "if that's what you need to do to play music, then go ahead". The only piece of gear she ever bought me was a GK 2x10 way back when we were still dating. But we're not all that big on expensive gifts for each other. Usually for Christmas and birthdays, we just do something really small and maybe a dinner. Maybe if we have more money some day, there'll be more of that.

Was thinking about going even cheaper ($109!) and getting an SX Furrian MN+ with a P90 in the neck like this:



Never played a Tele before, but I wanted a jangly single coil guitar and I hate Telecasters so this will be good? Maybe?

My Lady is generally pretty cool with what I do gearwise. I tell her what I am doing for the most part, trading this for that or whatever, although I know she doesn't all know what I am talking about. Recently I had to sell a Bass and some other gear, well I didn;t have to but it seemed right because our finances got tight. I am a student and get most of my money in chunks and don't have any chunks for awhile. So I had an AMAZING Ernie Ball 25th anniversary MusicMan, it was so awesome that I didn't want to mess it up dragging it around and I bought another Ernie Ball with similar electronics that I was cool with what happens when I gig, etc. SO I sold the 25th and a couple of pedals, gave her half for some big unforeseen expense and bought an ultra rare Peavey MidiBase and the stuff that comes with it.
My lady has also loaned me money for gear too, Orange AD200B...
I decided to get her involved with doing some music with me so I am messing around with her on synth me on bass and beats.

My gf likes the fact that I play guitar, but think pedals are a waste. She also gets mad at me for being on ilf all of the time

I've been with my girlfriend for a little less than 7 years now, and we've been living together for most of that. I have like 10 guitars, and every time I get a new one I bring it in when she's asleep or out somewhere. I hide them behind the other guitars, and then when she finally notices them like months later I'm like "Oh, that's been there for mad long."

Heh yeah, I've been guilty of doing that some. It never helps me though, she always finds out haha

My girlfriend and I have been living together since... well... 1996 or 1997... ask her which is right. Combined finances, so just about all of my gear purchases are a combined decision. She tried learning mandolin back around y2k, but she gave up quickly. The only thing that stuck is the mandolin hanging on my wall.

Unfortunately for her, I have an addiction to building pedals, and buying guitars. That means that I have stacks of containers filled with parts scattered across the house. I have so many guitars now that I have run out of room on the walls in the living room, and will be taking over a hallway with my next purchase.

Fortunately for me, she has decided to start learning bass. It's been about a year now, and in that time she has acquired a Squier Jaguar SS, a 100 watt combo amp, and a few upgraded parts. Let me tell you, it makes it much easier to justify purchases to someone who has a beginner understanding of my desire to acquire music gear.

Me: I need strings.
Her: Didn't you just order strings?
Me: Yes, but I have a dozen guitars.
Her: How much?
Me: 10 sets of six strings for about what we paid for the one set of four strings that I put on your bass.
Her: Ok.

It is getting harder to justify more guitars, though. 2 this year. 3 last year. I think she's recognizing that I've got a problem. :P
