Octavers, specifically octave down pedals. Making video game noises is just too much big stupid fun.

I found some of you prefer reverb, and until then I realized it was an effect, I have it always on in my amp.
My favorite is fuzz, otherwise I would be posting on Ilovecommpressor.com or some other place, but I'm very happy experimenting with delay, envelope filter and phaser.

Tremolo.
I love the old Rhodes piano sound - it caught my ear on the glory days of soul music and I kinda try and make my guitar sound like it. The tremolo is the thing that jumped out at me most about the Rhodes, so it's a staple effect for me.

the effect i use the most is reverb. unless i'm playing in a suitable room--and how often does THAT happen?--i've always got some kind of reverb on. otherwise things sound too flat. i came up listening to live albums and to guitarists who used a lot of reverb (often Fender amp reverb) as part of their live and studio sound, so that's what sounds right to me.
the effect i like to play with most is delay. ever since i first heard echo devices when i was a kid i've been fascinated by them, and particularly by the ability to build layers of sound-on-sound. nowadays with delays that are long enough to pseudo-loop with and "real" loopers, i can spend hours in spontaneous composition land.
fuzz is just below delay. i think fuzz is more FUN to play with on a tactile and emotional level--especially when combined with amplifier feedback, which is one of my favorite things on Earth--and is particularly great because it expands the tonal and textural options so much. but delay is just so intriguing to me...i was talking in a different thread about how to me reverb and delay are tools to alter the perception of space and time, and i think that's why i love them so much. they allow me to create an alternate environment with sound.
... yep.
