Who loves flangers?

I had a one of these back in high school (late 80s) and could never get a really great sound out of it.



Then very recently I realized that, as mentioned earlier in this thread, all of those great chorus and leslie sounds I like can be obtained with a good flanger. Right now I have one of these cheapos that I like quite a bit. It's crackly and noisy when on, and I may borrow from the circuit to make my own flanger in the near future.

Here's a local band for me. I don't think they're around anymore. I liked them when I saw them which was like four years or more ago. Try the song "Scheme" at about 2:30 for some flangey drums soloy goodyness.

flanging has always been the side-effect of some effects... like EHX SMMH has a nice TZF in it

then i got the Digitech PDS 20/20, mainly for delay... and now i'm very much into every sound in that box it's like a secret weapon... the flanging might not be the best in the world - how would i know, i'm not an expert - but when set right it makes me smile happily so i'm good with that

plus with the infinite repeats you get the LFO controlled siren... and that's just swell

I love the DOD FX75-B, it's metallic, sterile, and not at all subtle all in a good way. These used to be super cheap, around $15-$20 but I see that the prices are rising lately. Flanging for me, is an occasional effect, it can sound gimmicky if over-used.

IME The Boss BF-2 sounds GREAT on bass. Though nothing really like a flanger per se. Just some weird nameless modulation. I tend to use it with flanger or with other things for just a bit of movement that you can't put your finger on.

It sounds crap on everything that's not bass IMO.

And it certainly isn't "warm" or swirly or anything.

The little grey DOD flanger that I steal from my guitarist when he's not looking (i forget the name of it [EDIT- The FX75-B. Way to go for not reading this page.) sounds SO FUCKING GOOD ON EVERYTHING AND IS SUCH A GOOD DEAL. /advice

The flanger on my Polychorus is a better chorus than the chorus on my Polychorus. Not such a good flanger.

The Boss Hi-Band flanger (know there's one in my ME-6B) works well on bass, I suspect Boss realized that the BF-2 didn't work real well with anything lowend.

There's a highband chorus and some other bass-friendly range effects in the thing, and ironically, I like about half of them better on guitar than their guitar equivalents, which is why I keep the old monster running.

I've had the Carl Martin classic flange on the chopping block for a while now.... still haven't gotten around to a demo.

I like it.... a lot.

Really dig the 2 speed thing going on with dual footswitches. It's not TB, but has a pretty damn good buffer from what I hear when comparing it in a true bypass looper.

Yea, the Martin one is quality, pretty much all their stuff is.

If I ever go all Henry Kaiser and do an expensive as fuck gear binge with Dumble, I'm buying all the Carl Martin stuff out there.
