Toobz vs SS - Bass Amps

hurrrrrm. i've been leaving the preamp on it's setting then bumping around with the GX5's knobs. the gain/volume changes the tone on the Rusty so much. and the GX's knobs are easy to grab, being at almost shoulder height instead of on the floor.

so, bass dooders. i have recently joined your ranks with a new gothed out shoegaze project. looking for a loud tube rig that can still be clean at higher volumes. i like to play shortscale basses with single coil pups and lots of watery modulation. right now it's a toss up between a mesa boogie buster 200 watt 1x15 combo for 500 or an ampeg v4 head with some issues for 475..http://atlanta.craigslist.org/atl/msg/3035440259.html

Compared to eachother:

Mesas are cleaner, more articulate, and have a faster response.

Ampegs tend to be fatter and warmer.

I've never had an issue with my Mesa Bass 400+ and fuzz....and I don't think MudFuzz has either.

we DID just move to a new room, but it's the same exact size and shape as our last one. there's less equipment in there and it's not all cluttered up, but that shouldn't make such a difference right? did my amp just hit puberty and start lifting weights or sumphin? is it having a last firey hurrah before it burns out and dies?

i'm..... i'm SKEERED.

prob partly due to not having a bunch of un used cabs in the room they tend to suck a lot of sound

I love my amp! I have given thoughts to offloading the CL and getting another.. or a old SVT2.. or another orange...

yah. i read that on some other forum. it's a strange idea but it kinda makes sense when explained.

would just two cabs make such a huge difference? there was only a (i think) 4x10 the bass player was using and a Whatever Comes In A Half Stack For Guitarists that the gitar doucher (he's the reason we ended up splitting off to our own room. what a COCK.) had.

Yeah I was having issues at a practice studio a few years back with my amp loosing all the lows whenever I was there. Than it hit me I had been told about the unused cab thing when I was in school for recording engineering. I removed the unused 410 and BAM my amp sounded like it does at home.

Get the SVT2, turn all the EQ sliders all the way up.

Let me ask you this fellas. What tube amps get grittier? I have an Eden 300T right now, and it can get gritty with the treble and gain boosted up pretty high...but is there an amp out there that it's possible to do this with at lower volumes?

any amp with a master volume.. unless you want power tube saturation then you want a smaller lower watter like a Trainer or a old sunn.. or get a powersoak or a attenuator with a real amp.

What about using something like a Blowing UP or another boost pedal? Would that give me some natural sounding grit? My amp doesn't get dirty at all unless I tweak the Gain and Treble. The master volume just makes it louder. It's a very clear and clean amp. Which is awesome too! But I'm trying to see if I can achieve some of the dark tones I get out of my GK head with my Eden.
