When I'm in the mood, I love the adjustable to insanity old rack delays that double as chorus/flange with the LFO and various delay time settings.

Digitech RDS series and Boss DE-200 are two of my favorites in that department.

Out of curiosity, rfurtkamp, have you ever come across a Castle rackmount flanger?

I can't say I have, I became an el-cheapo rackmount afficianado in the mid 90s but didn't exactly seek them out other than to head to the dusty pro audio sections at shops. Most of what was out there was Ibanez, DOD/Digitech, Boss/Roland, Lexicon, and Alesis - the offbrand stuff was extremely extremely rare and this was an era of all you can grab Boss BF-2 flangers for $30.

Now that I'm in the middle of nowhere in Idaho and a cripple that doesn't get out much, I don't get to play much stuff unless I order it on a 'if it sucks, return it' basis.

wow, that's a rare beast, if it's cheap and functional it's a great buy. the Castle Phaser pedal has a real cult following but had i no idea they did a flanger too.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. I love flange. All posts about getting good chorus/vibrato/leslie tones are correct. Flangers rule.

oh, i forgot: i run the flanger at the end of the chain just before reverb and compression; i like flanging and chorus at the end because i find the effect more atmospheric there but prefer phasing at the front before fuzz, which emphasizes the frequency shift when the phaser sweeps. phasing sounds warmer in front, while flanging can get unpleasantly metallic and clangy for my taste when run into fuzz; admittedly, a different, warmer/goopier flanger might change this. the SCF is notoriously clean/dry.

Yeah, I've got a Castle Phaser. It's quite awesome. I picked mine up for super cheap and've no idea what it's really worth since they hardly ever come up for sale. I've only heard mention of the Castle flanger and've never even seen a photo of one. They might not've even gone into production. There's such little info out there on 'em. I thought that since rfurtkamp's a rack gear aficionado, he might've come across one. Since I love the phaser so much, I wanted to hear what someone thought of the flanger. I doubt I'll ever find one to hear for myself.

I'm also pretty in love with the GNI phaser/flanger. A frozen flange with a little swirly phasing on top is SEXXEEEE

Ha, Scruffie. Thanks. Actually I have seen that picture before. I forgot about that.

I had no doubt it existed. How did you remember where to find that photo?

That's hilarious. I guess this time I didn't look hard enough. I'm getting lazy with my searches.

BTW, since I love Bollywood:

i've just discovered how much i love flanger while playing bass in this new shoegazery band i'm in. using a polychorus with a bronco bass and a 100 watt bassman, with the flange set to metallic clang mode. i never turn the damn thing off, but i want something juicier...i played a choralflange and thought it sounded lovely on bass.
