I find metal to be just like every other type of music. There is some FUCKING INCREDIBLY AWESOME shit, and then there is some just plain SHIT.
I was always a big fan of Metallica up until the black album, Slayer was awesome, Pantera was heavy as hell. On the more recent side, I love Shadows Fall.

I think I may have chimed in on that one, or a similar chat. Back in my old high school, before we had things like "alternative" and "indie" (well, in my neck of the woods anyhow) you had two choices: metal, or country. I threw in with metal and never regretted it. Of course, things changed a little when I discovered alternative, then shoegaze, then indie... but I never threw my old Metallica away. I still have a soft spot in my twisted little black heart for old-skool thrash, Sabbath, and even the occasional White Zombie tune.
No post on METALLLLLLL would be complete without this little guy: ... and his buddies:
I tried to listen to Wolves in the Throne Room a few days ago. It was fine music, I'm sure lots of you would love it if you don't already.
My problem was, the promotional text said: "organic black-drone masterwork" And I put it on and it's just good metal, lots of riffing and explosions, some melodic parts with pretty vocals and symphonic elements. They are out on Southern Lords, so maybe they just decided they want to keep trying to get those hipsters to get the album. Have to admit, I'm a sucker for taglines like the one mentioned, but I didn't buy the album luckily. Now it's ruined for me.

Yeah Pirate and I were going over a lot of good metal, though on the heavier sludgier doomier side of things. Metal is so vast I find it really weird when someone says they don't like it. I don't like most modern death metal, metalcore, or thrash, but I absolutely love doom, sludge, and stoner.
How is the regular august burns red material? I bought a few of their albums on a recommendation from a few between the buried and me fans, but I didn't really get into them during the first few spins. I might have to give them another listen.
