Pedals Like El Capistan... Do They Exist?

Post by MannequinRaces »

I'm interested in buying an El Capistan but the only features I really want it for are tape age, wow and flutter, and tape crinkle. Are there any other tape delay emulation pedals that emulate these things that do a decent job but for less price?

I've heard good things about the RE-20 (Space Echo emulation). It doesn't have the control like the El Cap though. The Wampler Tape Echo is another tape emulation, but it doesn't have those specific controls either.

The Snazzy FX Wow and Flutter is even more expensive...

Yes, and those effects only work on the delayed signal that's why they're all tape effects... You want an El Cap...

Thanks for the replies. I think you've all confirmed and what I was suspecting... I need an El Cap!

Can you only buy Strymon effects through their site? I've never even looked, but at least via Google I can find any retailers.

P.S. - I just ordered an El Cap! :yay: Now the wait begins. I thought they were in stock but alas it's for a pre-order (up to 10 weeks but typically 3-6 weeks).

as good as the EL Cap is, the RE-20 is half the price used, and it's a half decent pedal

For some reason I like the sound of the El Cap a lot better (sounds warmer to me), plus it has a smaller footprint, and I think it has controls that are more useful (at least to me).

Plus you get that sexay looper. It's basically one of the best tape delay emulations plus the Lo-Fi Loop Junky...with dubbing!

That's definitely a bonus! Not sure how much I'll use the looper (I'd rather have a dedicated one) but it's there if I need it.

oh the El Cappucino obviously sounds better than a boss dual pedal modeled after another pedal. but the el cap is pretty expensive. Strymon's DSP is incredible, especially compared to boss. the looper is a lot tougher to use, especially in a live situation, but the el cap is still probably one of the better delays of the past year

I'll gladly pay more for a pedal that won't get kicked off my board.
