I'm using a 150w 60s Traynor into a 2x15 (so similar to an Ampeg but not the same) and a Jazz bass and I love the Frazz with it. Sorry to overpost my video here, but I really think it will help you with what you're going for. This is Jazz bass with flats, into Frazz, into big tube bass amp on the choruses :

The big thing is that the Frazz NEVER feels thin with a bass. It's always so rough tough and thick and you can hear every note clearly.

I love this! If you guys have an album underway consider it already bought with me!

Haha. Thanks. That one is just a teaser I mixed to share with some people wondering what my new project was sounding like. A buddy of ours who genuinely knows his stuff is doing a better mix of that now for us with 3 other tracks (also in there on bass on the new tracks are a goatkeeper and an algal bloom). And I will say the one thing that sounds WAY better in the new mix is that bass fuzz at the chorus. It's sounding way closer to what it sounds like in the room now.

But your description was exactly what I was after, so I figured it'd help. The Algal Bloom also sounds really good on bass, but it's not as thick. More dirty and angry than ballsdeep and pounding. The Black Forest is crazy good on bass too and can do a lot to make your bass sound meaner, but again, in all my years nothing has had that mix of thick and clear with a bass into a tube stack that the Frazz has. Ryan created some magic there. Truly my favourite fuzz of all time and this is after years with it.

Thanks. Would love to if we ever get our asses out of Toronto. I just checked your link and the soundcloud at it. Nice shit. You've got a new like. If you see a new addition with the initials JC, that's me.

3xfx Fatman V2 I cannot stress that pedal enough to any bass player using a tube bass amp. or solid state for that matter. Like a bad ass muff but with awesome self oscillation a stomp away and a gritty low end blend that lets you make the mofo boooooooom. and they're cheap because everyone sleeps on em.

But, it sounds incredibly thin and bassless through my new setup (bass is a mim p-bass also). Anyone have any recommendations for a heavy bass fuzz that has a lot of bass to it and good note definition?

... just to get this straight - how the hell can a SM sound thin? There's got to be something wrong with that. :?: :wha?: I have played a few and they tend to be very low end heavy, really (with a Music Man/Rickenbacker style active bass and a bass Vi copy)You can get Tom to build one

DE TBD of Bit? Mountainking Magnetar or Bass Fuzz? Woolly Mammoth? :idk: Also, if You feel You're loosing the note definition with fuzz (and for a reason or another You just can't crank up any mids) You might like to try an octaver or such + a nice OD dirt/ crunchy boost instead of a fuzz.

Fuzzhugger Groundswell is a SUPER overdrive for passive bass, ask if Tom still has parts lying around to build one for You. Ballsy bass boost in tone character, nice growling overdrive.

I played a SM and didn't get enough bottom out of it. At gig volumes (loud as shit) it's really tough to find pedals that keep the low end. Even the Wooly Mammoth was too low end lossy for me (i'm not OP)

Are you guys not turning up the volume knob very high? SM was so low end full for me too.

...that could be explanation, juts try cranking it full bblast. You don't try to keep the level to unity level with the bass direct signal do You? DON'T! Devi pedals simply are not for that.

Turn both knobs WAY OVER noon and the SM of my Bit Mangler is a mess of low end feast even in drop C tuning. :idk: SMs of the Synthmangler deliver nice low end and sometimes far too much for the live soundguys to like it. And the regular SM I had didn't have much else to give but low end and squarewaves

Oh and forgive me if that's not the case and I made an asshole of myself. In that case, I believe, the pedal HAS TO BE broken if it doesn't push the low end.

EDIT: Unless it's one of those newer models, You know, the newer Devi line (built after 2010) has those bright models, too, and I think it should read inside the box what SM model it is.

Supercollider treated me very well with my SVT rig for a long time...although I think "clear" can be pretty subjective...
Special low-frequency version.
