How do you..

Post by Officer Bukowski »

Get a bottom plate to go on tight when the screw holes are filled with paint? I got a powdercoated enclosure from mammoth and I can't get the screws to go all the way in so the plate is loose. Should I maybe try lubing it up?

My bet is they sent the wrong screws. It's happened to me too many times.

I didn't even realize the screws were different sizes until I put them all in the same drawer...

Really wishing I had known now.

Ahh I thought they all used the same size.. I guess I'll just try all the screws that I have and if none of them fit I'll have to order some more. It's a 1590bb sized box.

I was trying to screw them in and once it gets close to the end you just can't screw it in anymore. Naturally I tried to force it but that really hurts my hand with the screwdriver that I've got.

It's the Super Duper that I built.

I'm pretty sure it's not an issue with the screws because I just tried screwing the plate on, it wouldn't go in, the I used the same screw on another identical enclosure and it screwed in fine. I think they just caked up the screw holes.

Is there any way I can salvage this? This enclosure is pretty much useless to me this way.. Maybe I should grind down the screws do they don't go in so deep?

I'm going over to my drummers house today and he has a bench grinder so I'll try grinding the screws down with it and if that doesn't work I'll ask mammoth to send me another one.

If it's screwing in most of the way, it might not be the wrong sized screw. Screw it in, then unscrew it a few times to see if you can loosen up whatever's in there. If that still doesn't work, maybe the screw is too long (which I kind of doubt), or you could try using a drill to get some extra torque on it. I've had to do that a couple of times because epoxy got into the holes.
